    Jussie Smollett Is Maintaining His Innocence

    Former Empire star, Jussie Smollett-Bell, is still battling the allegation that he staged a hate crime. Last March, Smollett was indicted on six counts of disorderly conduct for lying to police.

    The former actor told police that he was a victim of a hate crime last January. Smollett alleged that two masked men attacked him near the Chicago subway. The masked men allegedly yelled homophobic and racial slurs at Smollett and looped a noose around his neck before fleeing the scene.

    Police identified the attackers as two brothers, Abel and Ola Osundairo. The brothers have connections to Smollett through the Fox show, Empire. The charges against Smollett were ultimately dropped and then restored again on Monday.

    This week, the actor is maintaining his innocence. Smollett pleaded not guilty in court on Monday. His lawyer, Tina Glandian, has asked the Illinois Supreme Court to halt the case.

    “He’s obviously frustrated to be dragged through this process again,” Glandian told reporters outside of the Cook County courthouse.

    Glandian also filed a motion with the court arguing that restoration of current charges counts as ‘double jeopardy’.

    Double jeopardy refers to charging a person with the same crime twice, a violation of rights. Prosecutors argue that double jeopardy doesn’t apply because there was never an actual prosecution

    Furthermore, Smollett has repeatedly expressed that he is innocent. It is said that the star was unhappy with his salary while on Empire which led to him stagging the attack. His alleged motive was to gain publicity for being a gay black victim of a hate crime. Smollett has certainly gained the press attention he allegedly hoped for—but be careful what you wish for, right?

    When asked by reporters whether he still claims to be innocent, he responded: “I don’t claim to be innocent, I am innocent.”

    On a side note, one of Jussie’s former casemates if also facing legal troubles. Shaun Wiess, also known as Goldberg in the popular Mighty Ducks series was arrested in LA last month. Coach Bombay is probably not too proud of either of these guys.

    Ben Simmons Injures Back

    Ben Simmons, the All-Star player, suffered a back injury during a game against the Milwaukee Bucks and is expected to miss significant time. He also missed a previous game due to lower back tightness. The 76ers have not set a specific timeline for his return, but he will be re-evaluated in two weeks. The team will prioritize his recovery over rushing his return. The 76ers have a talented roster and can compete strongly when everyone is healthy.

     The team has a strong enough roster to hold it down with solid play during Simmons’ time away. Instead of further aggravating a minor injury, it is likely that the team will allow Ben to rest and heal his back properly.

    If this team can stay healthy for the end of the season, there is no telling how far they will be able to go. The Philadelphia 76ers have quite a talented roster. When they are all able to play together at 100 percent, they can compete with any team in the league.

    Final Thoughts

    It is sad to see the Sixers have to deal with another injury. Thankfully Ben Simmons’ back injury doesn’t seem too bad. It would be smart for him to get some needed rest and return fully healthy. Hopefully, Simmons will be ready to go for the final part of the season, allowing for Philadelphia to make their way into the playoffs and make a solid run.

    Vanessa Bryant, Kobe Bryant’s wife, has sued the helicopter company Island Express. This is the company that Kobe was using when the helicopter carrying him, his daughter, and seven others tragically crashed.

    Island Express is only supposed to fly if the conditions coincide with visual flight rules. Vanessa Bryant is suing the company because she feels that the company ignored these rules the day that the crash occurred.

    There was a fair amount of low and thick fog on the day that the helicopter crashed. Unfortunately, the craft that they were in did not have the proper technology to navigate through such a large amount of fog. Because of this, the pilot was unable to see.

    Sadly it would seem that the pilot made several risky decisions that day. This includes not correctly assessing the weather before takeoff, failing to abort the flight once he saw how low and thick the fog was, and failing to maintain reasonable control of the helicopter.

    The lawsuit that Vanessa filed claims the pilot was going 180 mph in a steep downward direction moments before the crash took place. The same pilot got in trouble for flying a helicopter into an area of reduced visibility in 2015.

    Final Thoughts

    Vanessa Bryant’s lawsuit has not listed a specific amount but is likely to be in the millions. This is since she feels the company took unnecessary risks. Along with this, Kobe had the potential to make a fair amount of money in the future, so the lawsuit hopes to account for that.

    This tragic event has affected several family members of those lost in the flight. Vanessa is the first to file a lawsuit against Island Express, but others are sure to follow.

    This past week, Daye was featured on the “femme it forward” tour, where he performed songs from his grammy-nominated album” Painted.” The concert was amazing, and during the show, Daye would cry and explain that he is very passionate about his music. While performing his song “Love you Too Much”. He gave roses to the ladies in the crowd and even took a fan’s phone and recorded himself singing. It’s no secret that the ladies adore him. Although there was an audio problem in the first half of the show, Daye was still able to perform in clutch moments greatly. He would transition from his audio to live music so perfectly. Between Daye energy and the help on the live band, Lucky Daye was quickly capable of getting the crowd excited.

    Overall, Daye is a performer that I would see solo. He has great music and energy that can be appreciated in today’s music world. Between his excellent stage vibes and his voice, he will give any lady the chills. He still has room to grow on stage, but he’s off to a great start. To keep it short, I want some “mo.”

    Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd’s 2018 collaboration “Pray For Me” was a huge hit from the Black Panther Soundtrack, which was already being highly praised. The single itself was a Billboard 100 Top 10 hit.

    A new lawsuit against Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd alleges that single “Pray For Me” from the Black Panther Soundtrack steals an uncredited sample from a band by the name of Yeasayer’s 2007 song “Sunrise.”

    The Brooklyn-based rock band claims that Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd stole from its song, “Sunrise,” while slightly altering the sounds. According to TMZ, the part allegedly stolen is a “distinctive choral performance” the band recorded using their own voices.

    Yeasayer claims the allegedly stolen material is “immediately recognizable” as that of their own. Thus, the band is not only asking for the blocking of all further sales and airplay of the record. Additionally, they also want all the “Pray for Me” profits from the record.

New Toronto 3 is the latest installment in his New Toronto mixtape series, dropping in March. Opposite of his Chixtape series, where he expresses his R&B side of music, Tory Lanez’ New Toronto series gives us his Hip Hop side and strictly bars.

    He is taking his career into his own hands. It is no secret that Tory Lanez has had ongoing problems with his label. While receiving much success and high praise of Chixtape 5, he vocalized his frustrations with his label, Interscope. Furthermore,  the Canadian rapper has updated fans that he is dropping New Toronto 3. Additionally, he made it known he is soon to be released from Interscope.

    Although his public criticism of the label Tory says, there’s no bad blood between the two. And that the departure centered around the fulfillment of his five-album deal.

    Tory Lanez also took a bit of time to respond to fans on both his upcoming release and the idea of him completely taking the reigns of his career from here on.

    With no one telling him what to do or what kind of music to make, he’ll now full control of what he wants to create. This could only mean good things musically for Tory Lanez. Tory’s career, as he says, is only just beginning. Be on the lookout, as New Toronto 3 drops this March. After recently putting out his “Broke In A Minute” record, it is excellent to see Tory Lanez back in form and putting out rap records of his own instead of being featured.

    At first glance, you wouldn’t think it, but “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” is an anime that will have up all night. This Anime tells the story of what would happen if gods like Apollo, Loki, Freya, or Hestia come to live with mortals. The gods make families with mortals call familia’s by giving them their blessings. The character’s growth in the Anime is set up like an RPG video game. Each time they travel in the dungeon to fight monsters, they level up.

    The story follows a boy named Bell Cranel and his goddess, Hestia. The Hestia familia was once one of the weakest familia’s around until Bell unlocks a skill that allows his stats to grow rapidly as long as he has feelings for someone. Hence, introduce another character and probably the strongest human in the series so far, Ais Wallenstein. She is a high-level warrior that is apart of the Loki familia. One day she saves Bell, and at first sight, he falls in love with her. Bell continues to grow and earns respect for him and his familia as he takes on challenges that he never thought would happen.

    Balance.

    The Anime does a great job of balancing out its kids and dark aspects. Whereas some scenes can be as kid-friendly as a pokemon scene, others can get dark with views of prostitution, murder, and woman-beating. This Anime is not what it looks like. However, the story tries to not go that deep into the darker aspects. The characters are well designed, and the stories are entertaining. The fight scenes are good and not too flashy like in Black Clover. “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” or “Family Myth” uses an assortment of gods from different mythologies. There are only a few well-known gods, but that’s a good thing. It would have been such a cliche to use gods that the whole world knows.

    Overall, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Is a good anime to watch for entertainment reasons. It’s not kid-friendly and has some dark twist and turns to it. It has a lot of sexual content, but nothing to kill yourself about. You will enjoy the characters because there is a lot to like, trust me. There has been an announcement that season 3 is on the way, but no exact date yet.

    After celebrating its 350th episode, ABC ‘s Grey’s Anatomy is looking stronger than ever. The cast is tight, the episodes are sharp, and the acting is excellent. However, Grey’s Anatomy may need to come to an end.

    If you are like me, then watching GA (Grey’s Anatomy) wouldn’t be an option. I didn’t care for it and the hype, it is just another hospital show. Then one day, I gave in. I turned on Netflix and binge 15 whole seasons of Greys Anatomy. It was sad but pleasurable at the same time. You grow with the characters, you have unexpected situations, and out of all of that, you have characters whose relationships you love, both on and off the medical floor. Its just pure, joyous entertainment.

    The way the show keeps its freshness is by introducing new characters with their own story. Also, the show mixes action, suspense, and romance so well that when (spoiler) the hospital was under attack by an upset husband or serial killer, you were on the edge of your seat. It’s always a crazy adventure. You have a new antagonist every season or episode, and it can sometimes be someone you least expect to become a threat.

    The stories keep you intrigued and curious. It will make you cry and argue with other fans of the series. If you haven’t watch GA, you should. It will be joyous, sad, funny, and all different types of emotions.

    Why it should end.

    If GA never ends, then ill be ok with that. But we all know that a good thing must always come to an end. Overall, if Greys keep up this level of writing, then it will never end. The only time the show should end is if the writing gets sloppy and starts to lag. As long as those aspects are still in, then the show will be beautiful.

    Today on 2/24, a combination of both Kobe and GiGi basketball numbers. A public ceremony was held in “the house that Kobe built” to celebrate the lives of all those who perished that day.

    Beyonce has the voice of an angel

    Starting the ceremony off was arguably the most prominent singer in the game right now. Beyonce, who was a friend of Kobe’s, opened the show singing what she said was one of Bryant’s favorite songs. She followed that up with her hit song “Halo” and did not disappoint at all.

    Vanessa Bryant is the epitome of strength

    In the most public display of power shown since the tragic events of January 26th. Vanessa Bryant took the stage to eulogize both the love of her life and her child. Mrs. Bryant had moments where she struggled to compose herself, but overall she did a fantastic job. Vanessa spoke first of her Teen daughter, who was on the path to basketball stardom. She then touched on the man whom she had shared her life with for nearly 20 years. In both instances, Vanessa gave insightful, flattering, and loving comments that genuinely embodied the people she loved. The fact that she even spoke is a testament to her strength and her use of the mamba mentally.

    Michael Jordan cared about Kobe Bryant.

    Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant will forever be associated with each other. Jordan the original, Bryant the carbon copy, both hold claim to at least the NBA’s most competitive title. One would think that the comparisons would drive a wedge between the two former players. However, that competitive edge and will to win led the two to form a bond, unlike many students/teachers have had. Jordan cried during his speech and even referred to the fact that such an act will result in another “crying Jordan” meme. What was clear is that MJ not only respected Kobe but loved and cared for him like family.

    Kobe off the court was different from Kobe on the court.

    Rob Pelinka probably offered the most introspective look at who Kobe Bryant was off the court during his speech. Pelinka shared with guests that during the morning of the crash and he Bryant was texting. The topic was getting a friend’s daughter an internship within the lakers organization. The friend happened to be John Altobelli, who, along with his wife and two other daughters, was on the helicopter as well. Pelinka’s story highlighted that Kobe, for all his standoffish personality, and killer instinct, was indeed a caring human being. Watching Kobe in retirement gave many people the ability to see another side of such a dynamic person. Kobe’s last moments were spent trying to help someone else is a testament to the man he was.

    There will never be a Kobe Bryant.

    From bringing Brandy to prom to skipping college to playing the game with a passion that had never been seen, Kobe Bryant blazed a path that none will be able to follow. The love he’s received since his passing is just another example that only Kobe can be Kobe. Earlier in the week, Celtics legend Bill Russell wore a Kobe Jersey to the Lakers/Celtics game. Anyone with any knowledge of sports rivalry knows just how blasphemous such an act is. It happened though, and only because that’s the respect and admiration, Kobe Bryant deserves.

    Whether you loved or hated Kobe, you had no choice to respect him. The saddest part is that he was beginning to show the world who he indeed was.

    Katherine Johnson, the NASA mathematician who inspired the movie Hidden Figures, has passed away at 101 years old!

    Katherine Johnson was a pioneer and a true definition of Black Excellence. The former Nasa Mathmetican and Medal of Freedom recipient has passed away at the age of 101!

    Johnson, who became more popular within recent years due to the film biopic Hidden Figures, was pivotal to American Space Exploration.  Along with Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, Johnson was one of three black women that helped NASA complete orbital spaceflight.

    Born and raised in West Virginia, Katherine Johnson had been making history long before her time with NASA. After graduating from West Virginia State with the highest honors, Johnson was one of the first black students to attend West Virginia University.

    After one year at West Virginia, Johnson quit school to start a family. Once her children were of age, the Mathematician return to teaching before shortly joining NASA Predcessor NACA.

    Once at NASA, the mother of three excelled at validating calculations usually done by computers. So much, so that Pilot John Glenn is quoted as saying.

    ” if she says they’re good… then I’m ready to go.”

    Because of the work done by Katherine Johnson and others, America was able to take the lead in the space race of the ’60s. Even more, her contributions played a significant role in the perception of women and blacks in STEM fields. Not only did she break down barriers for people of color but women as a whole.

    The title of the movie depicting her life is truly fitting. Katherine Johnson was indeed a hidden figure to both American and Black History alike. Furthermore, her life’s work is a reminder that American History is Black History, showing that you can not have the former without the latter.

    Rest in Peace to a true queen

    Rihanna stays winning. The artist, designer, and makeup mogul was honored with the highest award given at the NAACP Image award’s ceremony.

    The 51st annual NAACP Image Awards took place on Saturday night. The ceremony is hosted by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Each year the NAACP recognizes and honors outstanding performances in film, television, music, and literature. This year’s winners included some big names.

    Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, and Lizzo were among the bunch who went home with an award. However, Rihanna had the honor of receiving the prestigious President’s Award for her philanthropic work.

    Following the presentation, the singer gave a powerful speech that rallied the room into roaring applause.

    “This night isn’t just about me; it’s about a greater purpose,” she began. “My part is small compared to the work being done in this world and what’s still to be done. I’m fortunate to have started the Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012.”

    “We can fix this world together. Division won’t help. Let’s not become desensitized and ignore each other’s problems. It’s not just about race, gender, or wealth. We all have diverse colleagues, partners, and friends who care about us. When we protest and raise our voices for justice, ask them to stand with us too.”

    Furthermore, she concluded with “Imagine what we could do together. Thank you for this honor.”

    Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of Rape in a New York Court!!!

    Disgraced Hollywood executive Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of third-degree Rape & first-degree criminal sexual act. Weinstein is currently in police custody and will remain there until sentencing.

    After a six-week trial and additional five-plus days of deliberation. A jury has found Harvey Weinstein guilty on 2 of the five charges he was facing. Weinstein caught a break after the jury found him not guilty of 2 predatory sexual assault and first-degree Rape. The predatory sexual assault charges carry a possible life sentence by themselves.

    Weinstein pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him in the trial. All of the charges stem from the accounts of 2 women. However, countless others have come forward and accused Weinstein of sexual assault.

    The two women who went to trial are Miriam Haley and Jessica Mann. Mann, an aspiring actress, claims Weinstein raped her at a hotel in 2013. While Haley, a former production assistant, accused the mogul of forcibly performing oral sex on her in 2006.

    The defense team argued that everything the women did was consensual, to advance their careers. On the other hand, prosecutors argued that Weinstein was a predator who used his position as manipulation. Even more, the testimony of other women was further proof of a predatory nature.

    A jury of 7 men and five women chose that they agree with the victims in this case, and now Weinstein faces at least 25 years behind bars.

    Legendary Italian designer, Giorgio Armani, held a closed-door fashion show for the first time over the weekend. The supermodels and Armani himself were the only persons inside the venue during the show.

    The show took place in Milan, Italy, where reports of the coronavirus recently popped up. As of now, there are 219 reports of the virus in and around the city of Milan. For fear of public health, Armani decided to live stream the show. The decision came just hours before the show was set to take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

    “The Women’s FW20-21 fashion show will be streamed live at 4 p.m. as a precautionary measure to support public health. The show will be held behind closed doors.”CET today on http://armani.com,” the official Armani page tweeted that day.

    The walking display totaled 16-minutes. Like always, Mr. Armani appeared for a bow to his audience following the show. This time was different. Armani did a bow to an empty theater, with no applause or face insight.

    Of the nine shows scheduled that day, Armani was the only brand to forgo an audience.

    “The show will be held behind closed doors due to the coronavirus situation in Italy. It will be live-streamed on Armani’s website, so please do not attend the show in person. This decision was made to prioritize the well-being of all invited guests and avoid crowded spaces.”

    The coronavirus is beginning to have severe effects on more than just human health. This morning, the Dow Jones dropped significantly due to the epidemic in China. And now the fashion industry is facing a threat.

    China’s Shanghai fashion week has been indefinitely postponed. And at least 1,000 Chinese fashion reporters, designers, and buyers have been banned from traveling outside of the country.

    On top of that, Chinese consumers are among the biggest spenders in the world of luxury fashion. Without the support of Chinese buyers, European luxury brands should expect to see a significant drop in revenue.
