Bass Artist Teri Miko Debuts Pop-Influenced Sound On ‘Feels Real’

    0

Prominent Indian artists Teri Miko and Madoc may be known for their ability to produce a vicious bassline, but they break new ground with expert execution on their latest track “Feels Real” on Spinnin’ PremiumMiko and Madoc team up with vocalist Elle Vee – who boasts a collaboration resume including Benny BenassiDzeko & TorresParis Blohm. For “Feels Real,” which features organic instrumentals, a delicate and cinematic drop, and raw lyrics. Vee‘s silky vocals give life to Miko & Madoc‘s lush productions, conveying the story of longing for something genuine in a world of superficiality. “I totally believe in freedom of expression when it comes to collaborations so we never gave Elle any references or restrictions,” says Miko of working with Elle Vee on the track. “I really don’t know how but she felt my mood at that moment, and wrote the lyrics of the girl who is a little lost, sometimes insecure and definitely looking for a lot of answers.” Miko recognizes that fans may be surprised by her and Madoc‘s debut of a new style, but they believe wholeheartedly in the finished product of the track. “Super excited about this release! It’s going to be my first sort of pop release on a major label! Waited a long time for this!! Teri and I first started planning our collab almost a year ago.” – remarks Madoc.

Throughout the last decade, Teri Miko has established herself as one of Indian dance music’s most prominent DJs and producers. This year alone, Teri has had several releases on Spinnin’ Records, such as “Kolavo” and “All I Want,” that showcase her signature high-energy bass sound; however, she proves she’s capable of switching gears on “Feels Real,” opening up a new realm of possibilities for her future sound. Teri has accumulated an international audience through her high-energy live performances at India‘s largest dance events, such as Sunburn Festival and Supersonic, and regularly plays to packed venues at some of the largest parties at well-known universities around the country. Her co-producer on “Feels Right,” DJ and producer Madoc, is an industry veteran known for his versatile style of music; Madoc‘s original productions range from driving house to rap and hip-hop influenced beats. Like TeriMadoc has experimented with non-electronic tracks – his remix of Charlie Puth‘s “Attention” received an overwhelmingly positive response, spurring further exploration into different genres. He knows how to keep a crowd on their toes and thus has become of one of the most popular and respected names in India‘s nightlife circuit over the last decade. Indian producers are gaining international attention this year, so keep an eye on Teri and Madoc‘s evolution.

    Watch: Akheim Allen-“Wavs Dnt Die”

    0

London rapper Akheim Allen emerges onto the scene with his debut release ‘WAVS DON’T DIE’, produced by Earbuds (Slowthai, Daniel OG).

A bass-heavy, eerie instrumental lays a misty surface for Akheim’s piercing, rugged flows, mixing street level situations with politics, referencing Trident and post-traumatic stress disorders in his first bars. Setting the conscious tone, Akheim already feels a rapper of serious ability, moving between rhythms and lexicon with ease. There’s something almost Kendrick-like about this flow and punctuation, punching out behind another finessed, low-key instrumental courtesy of one of the hottest beatmakers in the scene right now.

The first taster from his upcoming EP, this new release affirms the levels that Akheim is already operating on – his natural intelligence and stucatto delivery creating an unorthodox, renegade feel. Speaking on the track, Akheim states: “A song that promotes aspiration. When you feel like you’ve been knocked down or have made wrong decisions that have impacted your life – you’ll always be able to find your feet again when you’re passionate and persistent.”

Working already with the likes of Dave East, Avelino and Dreamville’s Ari Lennox, as well as writing with Kojey Radical and Maleek Berry, Akheim is rolling with some of the brightest emerging artists right now, period, and deservedly so: get ready to hear a lot more from Akheim Allen as the summer rolls through.

Lil Wayne Drops New Track “Quasimodo”

    0

Lil Wayne has been stirring the pot up as of recent behind the scenes, now only to drop his newest single “Quasimodo” which is rumored to be on The Carter V.

Being leaked originally via DatPiff, the single is actually a banger. In the record Lil Wayne raps about trapping and uses Drake’s YOLO statement.

The Carter V was originally set for a 2013 release date, but politics got in the way as Lil Wayne had issues with his label upon it’s unveiling. The fans have been patient and waited long enough, as we can only anticipate what the reaction will be.

During Wayne’s recent show in Miami, he told all his fans on the mic, “Just to let y’all know I had a meeting today, it wasn’t a long meeting. Just so y’all know the meeting was about the release date of Tha Carter f*cking V.”

Will Harlem’s Immortal Technique Ever Release Music Again?

    1

Back when I was 13 and 14-years-old, I would constantly listen to Immortal Technique. After stumbling upon his most famous song, “Dance with the Devil“, on a bus headed to school, I was oddly hooked.

Let me be clear; this song is easily the most horrific and lyrically disturbing song I had ever heard, that I still have ever heard. But he seemed contrarily interesting, seemed lyrically inclined (as he is). So I delved deeper. By my Freshman year of High school, I was listening to Immortal Technique nonstop on the way to school, in class, in the hallways, and at lunch talking to my friends.  There was something captivating about his music — his way of using enriched vocabulary to tell stories about gentrification, capitalism, and political events like The Iran Contra.

    Will Harlems Immortal Technique-1

By that age, I knew every song on Revolutionary Vol. 1 and Vol 2. and had been exposed to all of his singles: My favorite was clearly “Bin Laden” featuring Mos Def and Eminem — which was three prolific rappers’ perspective on the widely televised terror attack. But by the time I had become obsessed with his music, it had been quite some time since any releases. The last album I listened to was The Martyr, which featured hard beats, a Styles P track, and killer bars by one of the greatest ever. Immortal Technique was a street-smart, conscious, rapper — who had deep roots in the underground rap scene of the mid-2000’s. He was the most articulate rapper I had ever heard.

Fast forward to today, where has Immortal Technique been?

    Will Harlems Immortal Technique-2

The NYC legend is actually touring right now with long-time collaborator, Poison Pen. He continues to perform classic bangers like “The Cause of Death”, “Harlem Streets, “The Point of No Return”, and “Obnoxious”. While his last individual album was released over a decade ago, he remains relevant in many original fans minds. Because of the intelligence he displayed in his music throughout his career, people care what he has to say: they really do. He has over 250K Twitter followers as to date and typically tweets about current political issues. Immortal was featured in Ice-T’s documentary “Something From Nothing” and he even debated Alex Jones on the InfoWars show.

But we all must wonder, or at least I do, will he ever release another album, let alone single?

Below are some examples of some of his most witty, articulate rhymes.

    “One” (Feat. Akir)

Immortal Technique in the trenches with my nigga Akir
Our family survived the genocides so we can be here
And now we enterprise the aftermath, one in the same

    “The 4th Branch”

It’s like MKUltra, controllin’ your brain
Suggestive thinking causing your perspective to change
They wanna rearrange the whole point of view of the ghetto
The fourth branch of the government want us to settle

    “The Point of No Return”

Malcolm Little when he knelt before Elijah Muhammad
The comet that killed the dinosaurs, changin’ the Earth
They love to criticize, they always say I change for the worse
Like prescription pills when you misusin’ them, nigga
The Templar Knights when they took Jerusalem, nigga
And figured out what was buried under Solomon’s temple
Al-Aqsa, the name is not coincidental
    Will Harlems Immortal Technique-3

    “Bin Laden”

This shit is run by fake Christians, fake politicians
Look at they mansions, and look at the conditions you live in
All they talk about is terrorism on television
They tell you to listen, but they don’t really tell you they mission

    “Dominant Species”

I drop knowledge so heavy it leaves the world unbalanced
Exterminate the spiritual force of all that challenge
I’m the lyrical apocalypse that crumbles the granite
Replacing you as the dominant species on the planet

Honestly, I feel this article doesn’t even do Immortal Technique justice. What he brought to the rap game has yet to be mimicked or even minorly touched upon. No one will ever be able to replicate the intensity that he put out on every song. I just hope that one day I’ll be able to listen to the latest Technique album. Until then, I nostalgically listen to his old hits.

Juice WRLD Drops A Contradictory Music Video For “Lean Wit Me”

    0

I think Juice WRLD is really talented, I do. Since bursting onto the rap scene, he has made some really dope tracks.

My personal favorites include “Black & White,” “Legends,” “Scared of Love,” “Lean Wit Me,” and others. He has a voice that is both high-pitched, and low-pitched at times, and raps about deep things. But look, let’s get this straight.

    Juice WRLD Drops A Contradictory-1jpg

“Lean Wit Me” is a song about doing hard drugs: there’s obviously no way around this. It’s about drinking lean, popping pills, getting high, and drinking. Have you heard the chorus?

Now that we have acknowledged this, not that it even really needs to be (because it’s so damn blatant), let’s reference his music video. The video, above, features Juice WRLD in a rehab, al-anon-like setting. It begins with someone asking him to speak about his situation and then the song begins. Then, it shows him praying with the other adults, getting arrested, and walking away in the distance. Here’s the problem. If Juice WRLD intends to give us the idea that he is recovering from use, or something, his song is completely in opposition to this idea. The music video does not really fit with his lyrics. In one scene, he is sitting with the other addicts and the part of the song comes out where he says

I know I’m gonna find it, ring, ring, plug hit my phone perfect timing.

Does this sound like the right context for sitting in an addiction circle? The visual content and the song itself do not coincide. Juice WRLD says one thing, many times, and then depicts himself as if he is trying to get better. The ending of the video is the absolute most irritating part of this whole thing. The video shows a visual that says some note about sobering up and a call 1800, etc, phone number. And that’s all cool. He should be advertising a sober message — but his lyrics are completely adverse to his intended message.

Critique of message and idea aside, this song is really good. Sure, the message is weak. But Juice WRLD is an emerging rapper that displays a lot of talent, it is just important to analyze all aspects of him.
