The couple is one of our favorite portrayals of Black Love. They’ve always been open and honest about their bond. The passion is evident in “Wake Up Love.” Taylor’s soft and seductive voice bridges the snaps and claps of the instrumental. While, Shumpert chats his professions of love with witty world play.

Throwback Thursday: Top 5 Ghostface Killah Songs

Throwback Thursday: One of Wu-Tang’s Many Talents

The Wu-Tang Clan sets the standard for what it means to be a quality rap group. Something that was quite unique about the Wu-Tang Clan was the fact that members of the group had individual albums. This allowed for countless hits from several members of the group including Ghostface Killah, GZA, and Raekwon among others.

(Give this previous HypeFresh article a read for the top 5 Wu-Tang Clan songs)

Ghostface is definitely one of the stands out from the crew. Check out the below list to see the top 5 Ghostface Killah songs.

Supreme Clientele: Top 5 Ghostface Killah Songs

    5. “Rise of the Black Suits” feat. Adrian Younge

This song dropped in 2018, showing just how talented Ghostface really is. It is cool to see him still making quality music after two-plus decades in the rap game. “Rise of the Black Suits” is off the album Twelve Reasons to Die.

This is a concept album between Ghostface Killah and Adrian Younge based off the comic with the same name. The storyline for the album is actually pretty interesting. It is based in Italy during the 1960s. Head over to XXL Mag for a further description of the idea behind Twelve Reasons to Die.

    4. “Iron Maiden” feat. Raekwon & Cappadonna

This song is off Ghostface’s first studio album Ironman. The album is a solid listen, and “Iron Maiden” is for sure one of the best songs on there. I am a big fan of the other rappers featured on the song. Raekwon and Ghostface have always gone great together.

Whereas Cappadonna pops off on this track. Cappadonna was involved with Wu-Tang Clan early on, and his verses on this song shows just why. I have always felt Cappadonna was a bit underrated, so it’s nice to see his talents showcased on this hit song/album.

    3. “Big Girl”

The sample on “Big Girl” is quite the throwback but works great. The sample for the song is taken from “You’re A Big Girl Now” by The Stylistics. This song goes to show why knowing the history of music is so important. It allows you to produce some quality/unique beats to rap over. Ghostface gives the original meaning of the song a nice new touch. Head on over to Youtube to give “Big Girl” a listen.

    2. “All That I Got Is You” feat. Mary J. Blige

This is a heartfelt track. “All That I Got Is You” is the lead single off Ironman, and serves as a touching tribute to Ghostface’s mother. The track offers a nice switch up from the normal pace of things with the Wu-Tang crew. To top off the song, there is a solid feature from the lovely Mary J. Blige. Check out the music video for the song below.

    1. “Child’s Play”

The song “Child’s Play” is off Ghostface’s hit album Supreme Clientele. The song tells the classic tale of young love in high-school. Ghostface Killah is able to drop some skillful lyrics over a laid backbeat.

    Final Thoughts

Ghostface Killah has no shortage of quality music. The above list features the top 5 Ghostface Killah songs to help sort through all the tracks. Throwback rap is always a great vibe, so stay tuned for future throwback Thursday lists of top songs by older artists.

What do you guys have to say though?

What was your favorite song from the above list? What other songs do you enjoy by Ghostface? And who is another rapper that you would want to see a throwback Thursday top 5 list for?

Seattle’s “Autonomous Zone” Could Be The New Norm

Protestors have taken over a part of Seattle as their “Autonomous Zone.”

The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, otherwise know as CHAZ, is a scary look what America may look like after 2020.  Protestors are occupying a part of downtown Seattle; a minor disturbance now could turn into Anarchy.

Seattle is at a crossroads right now, and depending on its response to CHAZ will determine if civil war 2 starts.

What started as a peaceful protest seeking the resignation of a Mayor has become a non-military occupation. Members of Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and other groups stormed Seattle’s Capitol Hill Monday. The protestors have since taken over an abandoned Police percent, and surrounding areas.

Protestors describe Chaz as a place “created to serve as a community, commune, self-sustaining, police-free zone.”

The group has a list of demands, which include abolishing the city’s police department and removing cops from school.

At this point, it’s hard not to believe that Trump and his gang are actively trying to start another civil war. From the beginning of protest that began after George Floyd was murdered, this administration has done nothing but incite fear and hate. The rate we are going we are headed straight from 1864.

America was young; then, she could recover and didn’t have the “greatest nation in the world” expectations. Now she is old enough to have a past, that when examined, reveals an embellishment of the word “Great.” This is why people like 45 want to “Make America Great Again,” they like the lie better than the truth.

What do you guys think about the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone? Should the protestors just give in? Or should they continue to stand for what they believe?

Throwback Thursday: Top 5 Wu-Tang Clan Songs

    Throwback Thursday: 90s Rap Classics

Your Thursdays are about to get a bit better from now on. HypeFresh will be getting active on throwback Thursday by posting articles for top songs of older artists.

Nothing against new hip-hop but I personally love the old-school stuff. Even if you prefer new music there’s no denying the skills of rappers from the 1990s. The Wu-Tang Clan is one of the best rap groups out there, and for sure dropped some heat during the 90s. Check out the below list for the top 5 Wu-Tang Clan songs.

Enter the 36 Chambers: Top 5 Wu-Tang Clan Songs

    5. “Da Mystery of Chessboxin”

This track showcases the classic Wu-Tang style of sampling of old kung-fu films. RZA is an extremely talented producer that helped bring a distinct tone to the group in its early days. “Da Mystery of Chessboxin” features a grainy beat that the group is able to slice up with quick and skillful lyrics.

    4. “Protect Ya Neck”

This song is one of the group’s bigger hits. “Protect Ya Neck” is from the Wu-Tang’s first album Enter the 36 Chambers, a total classic. I recommend giving it a listen if you haven’t already. You can hear various members going off on the beat, each bringing their own unique flow. Watch the music video for the song below.

    3. “Triumph” feat. CappaDonna

The track “Triumph” showcases six minutes of lyrical precision from different members of the Wu-Tang. The song features CappaDonna, basically the 10th member of the group. The song is my personal favorite of the LP it’s on, Wu-Tang Forever.

    2. “Diesel”

This song features a few members of the Wu-Tang, but my personal favorite of the group, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, absolutely kills it. ODB opens the song with an aggressively delightlful verse. The other rappers provide some solid back-drop for ODB to jump in with his eccentric energy and flow.

    1. “Tearz”

Overall this is just a great song. The sample used for “Tearz” is random, yet works perfectly. The song opens with a sad site of someone dying. The verses continue to describe the unfortunate ways that people they have known have passed away. “Tearz” was recently in Jonah Hill’s movie Mid-90s. Check out the trailer that has the song featured in it.

    Final Thoughts

The Wu-Tang Clan definitely isn’t anyone to f**k with. These top 5 Wu-Tang Clan songs are just a sample of the group’s hits. Give them a listen to hear some of their best songs, and if you like to check out some of their albums. Many members of the Wu-Tang Clan have their own individual albums that are also a great listen. If you are struggling for whose to check out I suggest looking into work by Ghostface Killah, Method Man, and Raekwon to start things off.

Stay tuned for future throwback Thursday lists of top songs by older artists.

What do you guys have to say though?

Are you digging these throwback tracks? What song from the above list is your favorite? And were there any songs that you feel should’ve made the list instead?

    Stephen Jackson Leading #IVEHADENOUGH March

Stephen Jackson is taking a stand with his #IVEHADENOUGH rally in Minneapolis today.

Stephen Jackson has had enough and is seeking justice for George Floyd with his #IVEHADENOUGH march in Minneapolis. The former NBA player is marching to the district attorney’s office to “demand convictions.”

“Never been the type to go back and forward with anyone. I just do what needs to done.”

During his NBA career, Jackson made a reputation for himself as someone who was really about that action. From his participation in the Malice in the palace to his off-court behavior, Jacko is hood and proud. Like most men from the hood, though, that doesn’t mean he is ignorant or uncaring. The exact opposite is true actually when people like Stephen Jackson care, they sincerely care, and he cared about George Floyd.

That’s why when he announced his #IVEHADENOUGH march, the texas native made it clear to say in red ink and bold letters.

“we are not leaving Minneapolis until justice is served”

The “All the smoke” podcast host also made a point to challenge the NBA to send at least one player to participate. Minneapolis District Attorney’s are praying to whomever deity they believe that such a thing never happens.

If just one of the top ten players in the NBA shows up to a protest demanding convictions, the DA’s office will face unimaginable pressure. Imagine Lebron James live streaming from downtown Minneapolis chanting with protestors “CONVICT THEM, CONVICT THEM.” The sheer amount of attention such a clip would garner would make this case impossible to prosecute.  Anyone tasked with “Objectively” trying a case of such magnitude has a harder Job then the guy who handles Trump’s hate mail.

Nonetheless, this is the burden the American Government and people have put on Minneapolis. They did it to L.A with the Rodney King Trial; they did it to Ferguson with Mike Brown. Now Minneapolis is forced to deal with the centuries of racial tension black people have built up inside. Usually, people destroy a city or two, a couple of people die, and eventually, things go back to normal.

This time feels different though, #IVEHADENOUGH is how most people think. A popular meme floating around says, “We are not our ancestors,” America should be careful not to assume.

What do you guys think of Stephen Jackson #IVEHADENOUGH march? Is it to much pressure to demand convictions?

George Floyd’s Daughter Gets A Full Ride to TSU

On Tuesday, June 9, George Floyd was laid to rest in Huston, Texas after he was murdered as a result of police brutality. The same day his daughter Gianna, age 9 got a full-ride scholarship from Texas State University when she is of college-age.

George Floyd was a long time citizen of the Third Ward community and grew up in Texas. Giving Gianna this full-ride scholarship will ever replace her father, but hopefully will make her future easier.

    What Does TSU Say

The chair of the TSU board of regents, Albert H. Myres attended the funeral and later made a public announcement on the TSU Facebook page.

The Texas Southern University (TSU) Board of Regents pays tribute to George Floyd as he is laid to rest. Mr. Floyd was a respected graduate of Jack Yates High School and a lifelong resident of the Third Ward.

“The Texas Southern University (TSU) Board of Regents pays tribute to George Floyd as he is laid to rest. Mr. Floyd, a respected graduate of Jack Yates High School and a lifelong resident of the Third Ward, holds a special place in our hearts.”

“To honor his legacy, the Board, in collaboration with the TSU Foundation Board, has established a scholarship fund to support Floyd’s beloved daughter, Gianna. TSU’s administrative and academic staff will warmly welcome Miss Floyd if she decides to enroll at the University.”

“We understand the importance of education in fostering solutions and creating lasting change for future generations,” expressed the Board in a statement. “We eagerly await the opportunity to embrace her as part of the TSU family.”

    Gianna’s Response

Floyd’s family is grateful for all that people do for them, and the never-ending support they receive. Gianna did not mention TSU directly but said that she is grateful for all of the support. She also said she has only happy memories of her time with her dad.

    Kanye West Also Helping Gianna

Kanye West launched a college fund for Gianna, he set up a 529 college savings fund to cover tuition for Gianna Floyd.

Kanye West also donated $2 million to the families and legal teams supporting Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

What do you think of TSU giving Gianna a full-ride scholarship?

T I Says Stop Cancel Culture, But Candace Owens Can Go

While on the Nick Cannon’s morning radio show, T.I gave his honest opinion on cancel culture, and Candance Owens.

T.I want’s the black community to stop canceling each other, except Candace Owens, “She can got to go.” The Grand-Hustle head honcho has had clashes with Owens before over their opinions on how to handle racial inequality.

TIP is known to be an articulate man who isn’t afraid to express his views openly even when they are beyond questionable. However, most of his views are in line with the vast majority of the black community. He may not be perfect, but we can trust T.I not to embarrass us in front of white folk.

During his visit to Nick Cannon’s show, T.I touched on cancel culture, and the need for a “Rehabalative approach.”

“We may have different ideas about the path to reach our goal, but we are united in our struggle. We are all on this journey together, and we can’t afford to lose anyone. We don’t have the numbers to easily discard people. I see many people talking about canceling, but I believe we need a more compassionate and supportive approach.”

The rapper did acknowledge there are certain people like Candace Owens, who is beyond reproach. Nothing that he doesn’t believe she is even a member of the black race anymore per her choosing.

“..She seems to have forgotten that she’s Black. She has turned in her Black card and she’s crossed over.”

T.I and Candace Owens were both apart of the Revolt summit, and their exchange along with Killer Mike went viral. It’s clear the two haven’t thoroughly hashed things out, but it appears they may have tried.

    http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyo_bFBfoOA

Unpopular opinion, but some of the things Owens says about the black community are 100% accurate. Her views on the effect of welfare and the destruction of the black male in the home are correct. Like it or not, she is telling you the truth when she says that Democrats have done nothing for the black community except disabling them.

One thing TIP said stood out, he said “. “You can either change my mind. I can change your mind. But we still moved forward. I don’t think dropping each other off is the answer all the time.”

Maybe what he meant to say is, if I don’t change your mind, and you can’t change my mind, then we will have to agree to disagree. However, we will also agree to work together to help see each other’s point of view.

What do you guys think of T.I views on cancel culture and Candace Owens?

5 Black Owned Business You Need to Support

Why should you support black-owned businesses?

There are many reasons to support black-owned businesses during the Black Lives Matter movement. Even though the majority of the protests against police brutality are peaceful, there are some that are violent.  They are looting local businesses, including black-owned businesses.

Supporting black-owned business also shows a representation in the economy. When you decide to spend your money at a black-owned business, it shows that there is a need for an inclusive economy. Bringing attention to Black- and minority-owned businesses also show support that anyone can be a successful business owner (despite skin color).

Films To Watch To Support The BLM Movement

The death of George Floyd last month triggered widespread anger regarding racial injustice experienced by people of color. Along with protests and petitions, people have been offering resources that can educate others on the Black Lives Matter movement.

A way to see what black Americans go through daily when it comes to racial injustice can be seen through movies. Movies have been featuring injustice for years before the movement started. Watching the movies on these heavy topics can help you better understand the issues at hand and to learn how to be better allies to black Americans.

    #1 The Hate You Give

    http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MM8OkVT0hw

This movie is a must-watch because it shows that in today’s day and age there is a division between white and black people. The story revolves around Starr Carter, a girl who faces challenges balancing her life in a predominantly black, low-income neighborhood and a predominantly white, affluent school. This movie also features a friend of her that experiences police brutality. As a result of her friend’s death, people start to speak out for change.

    #2 Stay Woke

This is a documentary-style film and is a must-watch if you want to understand the history behind the Black Lives Matter movement. This movie will show the events that led to creating the movement and what led to the uprise of the movement.

    #3 13th

This is another documentary-style film. This film explores topics like race, justice, and mass incarceration and how these topics are all connected. It is heavily focused on the 13th amendment and how it changed the lives of black people going from slaves to criminals. It connects the amendment to the disproportionately filled prisons with African-Americans.

    #4 Pride

This movie is more on the light-hearted side, it has a comedic feeling while still exploring the tough subjects. This film follows an all-black swim team and shows how it was a struggle for them to be taken seriously. They faced racial inequality, and violence as the swim teams tried to be saved. It shows a positive message that even in the darkest times you need to preserve if you want to see change.

Have you seen any of these films?

George Floyd’s Brother Testifies Before House Committee.

Philonise Floyd, the brother of George Floyd is speaking to a House Judiciary Committee about police reform.

A day after attending his brother’s memorial, Philonise Floyd taking action to get justice for his brother. The younger brother is the “big brother now” according to Philonise, and his brother’s death won’t be in vain.

In an emotional plea, Philonise Floyd was one of the multiple speakers to speak in front of a house judiciary committee about Police “reconstruction”.

“He called them ‘sir’ as he begged for his life”. The pain you experience when witnessing something like that is indescribable. Seeing your beloved older brother, whom you’ve admired all your life, die and plead for your mom is heartbreaking.

These are the words Philonise Floyd spoke while testifying today on Capitol hill. Social media has desensitized us the murder of unarmed black men so much that the videos average millions of views. Imagine for a second that the person being killed in the video, was your idol, your big brother. Picture seeing your brother being suffocated while screaming out for your mother, as a cop snuggly squeezes the life out of him.

The Floyd family, the Garners, the Rice’s, and countless others who have suffered from police brutality, have experienced it firsthand without needing to imagine.

No matter how you feel about #defunthepolice or what you think is the best way to handle police reform in the US. One thing is clear, the conversation is long overdue, and if we as a people really desire to move forward from this issue it needs to be resolved.

“Perry, look what you did, big brother. You’re changing the world. Thank you for everything”

We should be thanking George Floyd for his ultimate sacrifice, just as his younger has.

What do you guys think of George Floyd’s brother Philonise Floyd’s remarks?
