Houston Texan Chairman Cal McNair Apologizes For Hateful Speech

Cal McNair, the Houston Texans’ chairman and CEO, apologized for the inappropriate language used during a team event on Tuesday evening. McNair has apologized following a report that he made an anti-Asian comment at a team charity golf tournament in May, per ESPN.

“I’m sorry that we couldn’t get together last year, because of the China virus,” according to Bally Sports

McNair referenced and addressed a horrific phrase used by former President Donald Trump. He soon realized want he said was extremely offensive. McNair then apologized to the individuals who were still around him before the start of the tournament.

“In my remarks during the event in May, I used inappropriate language,” McNair stated in a statement. “I promptly apologized to those who approached me at the time, and I offer my sincere apologies once again.” Understanding how important it is to choose my words carefully. I would never want to offend anyone.”

In the report, after McNair made the horrific comment matters worsened. His wife, Hannah McNair, found this amusing and began to joke about it.

“[She] joked about her husband’s use of the term ‘China Virus’ to several people who had been present for the remark,” reported Bally Sports.

The McNair’s have a history of “edgy” or controversial commentary. Cal’s father, Bob McNair, in 2017 commented during an owners meeting “[We] can’t have the inmates running the prison.”

The comment caused a ton of commotion and resulted in scrutiny for the McNairs especially after ESPN reported the news. This comment was in reference to ongoing player demonstrations during the national anthem. He later died, in 2018. However, the McNair’s have a history of hateful and intolerable speech against minorities.
