Chicago Native Austin Poe Displays Lyrical Prowess On “Cold Out”

    0

Born and raised on Chicago’s north side & south suburbs , the windy city’s own, Austin Poe, continues to make noise by dropping quality new hitters and by representing the Zoony Life movement. One to believe in visions and individuality, the eccentric rapper has always led by example. While working to build a strong camp around him, Austin Poe created Zoony Life – A brand and movement to inspire fans to bring their visions to life no matter what it takes.

Formally known as E-Money, the rapper eventually decided to take on the name Austin Poe. Growing up with constant on and off hardships, the chitown artist decided to dig deeper into what music really meant to him and decided to use his middle name Austin, while also playing off the word, “poet.”

True to his name, Austin Poe, is an undoubtedly creative soul who loves to play off words with clever metaphors and punchlines. He’s a vet at off the top spitting, and dropping motivational gems.
Featured on major radio stations, music sites, and platforms such as, MTV, and WorldStarHipHop, the rapper is proof that putting in hard work pays off and that it’s always worth following a dream. Plans to continue to push the Zoony Life brand to another level, Austin Poe plans to turn the movement to a household name. As he becomes more than just local hype, it’s clear to see that the Midwest rapper will soon be a household name himself. “I am inspired by people that don’t follow the rules and do their own thing… cutting out the middle man… You just have to enjoy this life.”

Cutting through gritty production with ill lyrics and smooth flow, Zoony Life’s own Austin Poe embodies the reality and honesty of Chicago hip-hop. The emcee lays out his ambitions and looks to turn some heads with his brand new video for his single “Cold Out”. The new song and video is the first offering off his upcoming mixtape “Inspiration Vol. 1” which is due out this Summer. Here’s The Secret Weapon To Completing Any Marathon

    0

For what may have been a lazy Sunday morning for others, was a morning of butterflies and calf stretches for the thousands of other people who packed around The Blue Cross Broad Street Run’s starting line. The marathon, which has been home to Philadelphia since 1980, is a 10 mile beast that runs through the cities northern and southern neighborhoods, giving runners an up close look at some of Philadelphia’s richest culture and attractions. Over the years, the popularity of The Broad Street Run has grown, and now attracts runners from all around the world. Now, organized into color coordinated heaps, it isn’t surprising that of the thousands of runners, no two runners are exactly the same. Mixed in throughout the crowd were people tall and short, thin and wide, and old and young, all whom could be seen tightening up their shoelaces in pursuit of some unknown agenda incomparable to the person standing next to them. It wasn’t until the final seconds before the whistle blew that one obvious similarity could be seen taking over the crowd like the overcast of a cloud. One by one, people wiggled their earbuds into place as they got ready to not only embark on the 10 mile route to the finish, but also on a musical journey that would help carry their spirits to the end.
    Weapon To Completing Any Marathon-1
In comparison to other marathons, The Blue Cross Broad Street Run isn’t the longest, but that doesn’t take away the fact that finishing it can still be a grueling experience. In a matter of blocks, there can be unforeseen casualties like sudden leg cramps accompanied by dehydration and intense exhaustion. Each year the thousands who are picked through the marathon’s lottery system are never reflected in the final count that successfully cross the finish line. But those who do see the end, profess that music was their saving grace. To fight off the temptation of stopping, runners summoned some of their favorite artist to be their running companions. Artist like Daddy Yankee, DJ Khaled, and Coldplay kept up the pace with their running mates as they fought bouts of discouragement.
    Weapon To Completing Any Marathon-2
While it would have been impossible to learn what each person listened to, it was easy to learn the central theme that people hoped to be in tune with. “To get through the race I listened to 80’s classic hip-hop. I then like to mix in 80’s pop and metal,” said T’Sean Laws. “Anything that gets you hyper.”

As it appears, the best music to get you through the 10 miles was music that helped boost your adrenaline. Songs that offered up high energy, infectious beats and motivational lyrics were the songs that had more of an impact when helping runners reach the halfway point and then on. For Alisha Ward, Meek Mill’s song “Glow Up,” came across her playlist at the right moment. “Meeks “Glow Up” came up just as I was coming through City Hall. I didn’t plan on that, but I played it a few more times before switching over to Beyoncé’s “Schoolin’ Life”,” she said as she sat in the grass reliving her experience mile for mile with one of her friends. City Hall marked the halfway point, a point where some runners came close to quitting. Fortunately, the power of music is strong, and it clearly can help you overcome some of the toughest obstacles a 10 mile marathon will throw at you.

According to Dahmiyah L., another runner in this year’s Broad Street Run, Christ was with her every step of the way. She listened to gospel music the entire time, and that’s who she owes her medal to. “I can do all things through Christ,” she said. Surprisingly, there were a lot of people who chose to listen to gospel and Christian music, as opposed to artist like Meek Mill and Beyoncé. Christian hip-hop was actually one of the most prevalent—followed closely by country and other genres. Jessica Barberia said, “I listened to country the whole way and a little R&B. But I hoped that by the end my playlist would get me to “Whoomp There It Is,” by Tag Team. Barberia, who was all smiles, says that her music really made the run bearable.
    Weapon To Completing Any Marathon-3
If it wasn’t for music, who knows how many runners would have succumbed to the vibes of that lazy Sunday morning. Instead, runners popped their cherry cola flavored energy chews into their mouths, and positioned their thumbs over the play button…the latter being their secret weapon as they awaited the blow of the whistle signaling them to “Go.”

Clyde Kelly Blends Hip Hop, Electronic Dance Vibes For New Single

    0

Clyde Kelly’s new single “Bands Up” represents a clear step forward for the young MC, who appears to be finding his sound somewhere between boom-bap hip-hop and electronic dance music. “Bands Up” is an up-beat track with a tropical feel, and the first line of the hook, “finally got my bands up,” is delivered pristinely over the see-sawing, fuzz-washed synth.

“Bands Up” is a first-time collaboration between Clyde Kelly and LA-based producer selam., who also mixed and mastered the record. selam. had this to say:

“I wanted to make a track that was upbeat, happy, and banged, yet still encompassed my style as an artist. Making an optimistic chord progression, the trap drums, groove, and wavy synth pattern for me described a feeling of being on top, achieving what you want to do, killing it, and having the time of your life while doing it. I called the beat “Bands Up, Ran Up” and then sent it to Clyde who felt the same vibe, and the rest is history.”

This marks Clyde’s fourth single of the year. So far in 2018, he has released one single each month for his #12Months12Songs campaign.

Here’s How EnimaL Survived His Pursuit of Music

    0

Growing up, some kids have a more natural inclination towards subjects like math, while some kids may fall right in with English or science. Lamine Diop wasn’t like those children. Instead of grinding out solutions for the night’s math problems, he was looking forward to grinding out beats. You see, Lamine Diop, better known as EnimaL, was never fond of school, but he was always fond of music. While all of his peers and siblings were busy with the thought of securing college degrees, he was busy plotting on how he’d secure his first billboard hit. “I realized it was a passion of mine when I was about 15 or 16 years old,” says EnimaL. “I would spend hours and hours just putting together beats and rapping over them. That’s when I realized it was something I wanted to pursue a little further.” Music was something that was introduced to him at a young age by his mother. She had signed him up for piano lessons—unaware that those same lessons would serve as a musical blueprint to his life. What he felt when he would sit and make music can be summed up as nothing short of a revelation. But, it was a revelation that his mother feared would ruin the family tree—something he jokes about now.
    EnimaL Survived The Pursuit-1
However, despite her worries, EnimaL has been steadily proving that he doesn’t need degrees to contribute strongly to his family tree of budding college graduates. As it turns out, he’s able to prevail as a musician and actor. Back in his earlier days, he and a couple of his friends formed an LA hip-hop group called The Fly Guys. This was one of the first indications that he didn’t need a college plan. He recalls his experience in the group as something that, “got me ready to experience what it’s like being thrown out into the real world. I learned a lot of lessons on work ethic, and making connections so that I can make it in the game.” It was during this time with the group that he developed and honed the skills that make him an unrelenting solo artist today. His talents have even been picked up by his older sister Issa Rae, who he says took notice of him first. “Back when I was in The Fly Guys, she shot one of my first music videos. We started a web series together that went for many seasons,” he happily talked about. Now many years later, the two still find themselves continuing to grow their success together.

As many already know, Rae is the creator of the hit television series Insecure, which is just about to debut season three. But it’s during the show’s first season, that viewers see a charismatic rapper, played by EnimaL, entertaining the crowd…and Rae. He performs on stage a song with original lyrics that he wrote and produced called “Committed.” Since then, EnimaL has secured a spot as a recurring face in the widely accepted HBO series Insecure. He’s even had appearances in Starbuck’s commercials, and as a love interest in a Jazmine Sullivan video. When asked about his experience on the set of Insecure, he says, “it was dope!” Having the opportunity at such a big platform means a huge deal to him and his career. In between laughing he also jokes about how having his own trailer and access to all the finer snacks made him feel like the man.
    EnimaL Survived The Pursuit-2
It’s that feeling of being the man that keeps him hustling hard to keep the show going.  As a new artist, he prides himself on being built differently. “I have limitless creativity and the means to get it out. I don’t need a whole team of people behind me, because I can get it done myself,” he says. “Just lock me in a room with pro tools, a keyboard and I’ll make some magic for you.” Those are some strong words said by the artist, but it’s because of all the faith and support he has for himself, and that he gets from others that make those words believable.

As a result of his limitless creativity, faith, and hard-work, he’s kept his promise and made some magic for his fans.  As we sent this feature to the editorial team, EnimaL released his new album entitled Comma Club: Bottle Music. When asked about what fans could expect from his newest project, EnimaL’s voice quickly changed to reflect the promise of what his new album would deliver. “We taking it to the club, we having some fun, and we poppin bottles. The music is high energy and good times,” the artist said. With a big emphasis on enjoying life, he hopes that everyone who listens can find joy in whatever they do. He also reveals that riddled throughout his album is an even bigger emphasis on the achievement of goals. For this west coast rapper, it’s all about finding that healthy balance. “That’s really what I talk about. And that’s how I live right now. I’m working, going out when I can, but mostly dialing in and focusing on my career path. I want people to do the same thing when they listen to my music.” Making time for the glitz and glam of life is great, but without a set of priorities, it doesn’t make much sense. That’s why he practices what he preaches in and out of his personal life, so that way no one can say he doesn’t lead by example.

Along the way, he’s quick to offer up any advice he can to aspiring entertainers too. “Just believe in yourself at all times,” he says. “Even during hard times. Keep supreme faith in yourself. Work hard at every opportunity, and strengthen relationships with people. You have to be prepared.” EnimaL didn’t get to where he is today by falling short on his own advice. He stayed consistent, even when faced with the reality that his siblings may surpass him in life. Now with a budding career almost as fruitful as that family tree of his, one of the only things he has to worry about is being at the forefront of a what is hopefully an illustrious career.

    The Study Of Kanye West

    0

It seems like our old college dropout, Kanye West, should have stayed in school. Within the last few weeks, the acclaimed genius of music managed to land himself in more hot water. With little warning, West jumpstarted the controversy when he took to Twitter in what can be closely described as a tweet frenzy. Tweeting things like, “Obama was in office for eight years and nothing in Chicago changed,” to tweeting things that hinted at his intentions to run for President of the United States of America. In one post he stated, “Harvey Levin of TMZ your hearing from your future president. Let’s be friends. Please never use the word erratic to describe a person who is economically and psychologically empowered.” His rampage on Twitter got so bad that his wife, Kim Kardashian West, had to step in on his behalf in order to let everyone know that her husband was in good mental health. In a tweet she posted just shortly after one of his questionable stances, she said, “to the media trying to demonize my husband let me just say this…your commentary on Kanye being erratic & his tweets being disturbing is actually scary. So quick to label him as having mental health issues for just being himself when he has always been expressive is not fair.” But if only it was that easy to believe.

Sometimes people feel that he takes it just a bit too far. Throwing jabs at past President Barack Obama was one thing, but when West threw jabs at slaves for opting to remain in slavery was the final nudge that pushed people off the ledge. In an interview with TMZ, he made a few comments about slavery being a choice that was made. Sitting side by side Harvey Levin and Charles Latibeaudiere , West let his thoughts be heard by saying, “when you hear about slavery for 400 years… for 400 years that sound like a choice. Like you was there for 400 years and it’s all of yall?” Kanye West has always been one of the most influential and controversial celebrities of the 21 century, however, now some people are starting to view him as only being the most destructive.

Celebrities and the general public are now criticizing the rapper as having too large a platform to hold and speak such viewpoints. Some people say his thoughts are too ignorant, some say his thoughts are detrimental to the black community, and some say he’s just a mini President Donald Trump. But just as Mrs. West stated, Kanye has always been a free thinker, and people have always found it interesting to listen intently to his views on the world in the past. So why can’t people attempt to understand what he’s trying to convey through these very taboo ideas that he has today?

One reason may be that some of the things he says don’t make sense. For example, slaves have always been regarded in the history books as trying to escape their bondage. There’s evidence in the underground railroad, in which Harriet Tubman led hundreds of slaves to their freedom—because they chose to escape. There’s also the story of Nat Turner, an American slave who led a famous rebellion of slaves and free blacks throughout the south. And let’s not forget that just like the famous Erik Killmonger quote, “bury me in the ocean with my ancestors that jumped from the ships. Because they knew that death was better than bondage,” there were the slaves who refused to live in cramped spaces underneath a ship. It seems like Kanye West forgot a huge chunk of history when he made his statement live on TMZ. Slaves have never been just content with the shackles and whips and met that their bodies. In fact, would freedom exist today if there wasn’t such a thirst for it?

On the other hand, as confused as Kanye West might come across, there are always those devote followers who will defend him no matter what. In some twisted way, West could actually make an interestingly true observation. To be someone’s captive for 400 years can be seen as long enough to be considered a choice. Fear is only a state of mind, and once you make the conscious effort to think past it, winning is on the other side. For instance, on plantations slaves outnumbered the people referred to as “masters”, so opportunity to fight was always an option disguised as fear. Sure there were guns, but a gun can only have one target at a time. If slaves would have united on all fronts, it’s possible that they could have easily overpowered those in charge after a short tussle. Unfortunately, there were more slaves that chose to listen than those who chose to think of freedom.

Kanye West is the embodiment of many things. He’s been labeled a genius, a legend, and a disgrace—all in which can be argued. The one label that can’t be taken away from him is his fearlessness to be outspoken. Consequently, his fearlessness often offers up room for the assumption that he is forever falling into a dark abyss.

Prince Fox Teams Up WIth The Griswolds on New Single “Time Alone”

    0

Prince Fox integrates elements of dance pop, emo and synth rock on his futuristic Dim Mak composition “Time Alone,” featuring Australian indie rock band The Griswolds.

Originally from NYC, Sam Lassner (better known as Prince Fox) is a Los Angeles-based songwriter/producer who gained recognition by remixing songs from artists including 3LAU, Cazzette and SNBRN. Since then, he’s developed his original material into a unique brand of future pop, highlighted on 2018’s “Open Invite.” Coinciding with the release, Prince Fox kicked off his Open Invite Tour in February, hitting cities across North America, including a stop in the Bahamas. His new material builds off an impressive back catalog, which includes “Fragile,” a collaboration with Academy Award-nominated actress/singer Hailee Steinfeld, and his Dim Mak debut “Just Call,” featuring Bella Thorne. “Just Call” took the world by storm, re-invigorating Thorne’s music career and landing in 18 Global Spotify Viral charts including the US, UK, Mexico, Australia, with a music video that became the #7 Most Trending Video on YouTube. Following the success of “Just Call,” Prince Fox returned to Dim Mak with “Space,” a future pop collaboration with Quinn XCII, and most recently put his own spin on Jimmy Eat World’s classic, “The Middle.”

Joining Prince Fox on “Time Alone” are Sydney-based indie rock band, The Griswolds. This collaboration between Prince Fox and The Griswolds has been years in the making—dating back to when The Griswolds played a show at NYU, where Sam was a student at the time. After the show, a conversation sparked up between Sam and band member, Chris. Little did they know that they’d be reunited in the Dim Mak studio years later, resulting in “Time Alone.” The Griswolds are perhaps best known for track, “Beware The Dog,” which has been streamed nearly 22 million times on Spotify, and was chosen as the 4th best Alternative Rock Single of 2014 by Billboard. In April 2018, the group released Year After Year, a full-length acoustic album.

Broccoli City Festival: The  Performance that stole the Show

    0

Festival season is upon us, like the light that stretches across the pride lands. For anyone who has never experienced a festival before, it’s like walking through a field that slowly seeps into a melting pot of culture the further you push your way through the crowd. One moment you could find yourself standing next to someone with green hair and a bandanna, and the next moment you could find yourself sharing space with a 40-year-old shaman. Moral of the story being that it gets weird out there! But despite all the apparent physical differences of the crowd, there’s one thing that everyone usually unites over, and that is the music.
    Broccoli City Festival-1
This year Broccoli City Festival hosted its 5th annual music festival in at RFK’s Stadium Festival Grounds in Washington D.C. The lineup of artist who performed was an eclectic bunch, whose performances reflected their level of artistry. Ranging from Daniel Caesar to Migos, there was someone for everyone to listen to and enjoy. The performances started at noon, and lasted well into the night with the accompaniment of some sporadic light rain showers adding to the carefree vibe. There to share the day with the rain was Hood Celebrity, a spit fire lyricist, who took the stage first. After her performance, she was followed closely behind by the highly esteemed west coast rapper Nipsey Hustle, who struggled to get the east coast crowd moving. It seemed that for every one person who bobbed their head to his lyrics there were 10 more people whose senses seemed to be dulled by his presence on stage.

    Broccoli City Festival-2

It wasn’t until the final three acts that the crowd finally seemed to find their batteries. After a long intermission, Cardi B hit the stage, followed by Miguel, who was then proceeded by Migos. “This my last performance, so I’m fitna turn up,” Cardi B said as the beat dropped to “Get Up 10,” a song from her new album Invasion of Privacy. But, with a stomach the size of a watermelon, she was visibly winded and in no shape to deliver to fans her full potential. Luckily for her, the set wasn’t too long— giving her the chance to catch the breath she lost while working both ends of the stage. “I’m tf tired,” she admitted to the audience as she got ready to perform her last few songs. The artist is pregnant with her first child, making her performance that day quite the struggle. It’s hard to say, if she would have given a better performance than Migos or Miguel if she wasn’t pregnant. Although thinking back on the night, it’s hard to picture anyone being able to have topped Miguel’s show.

    Broccoli City Festival-3

When Miguel came out it was clear to see who the more established artist was. “How you feel, how you feel,” he asked as he wrapped one song up to begin his next number. “Did you come here to have a good time or what?” And just like clockwork, the crowd went nuts with answers that were, in all some variation, the meaning of yes. Feeding off the crowd’s energy, Miguel gave 100% of his own energy as he started to go into his next song, which was “Do You Like Drugs.” His control of the crowd, and energy which seemed to leap from stage and into the crowd as if it were crowd surfing undoubtedly made him the more distinguishable artist that night.

    Broccoli City Festival-4

Miguel has been an active artist since the 2000’s, which is what probably made his comfortability on stage so apparent. When compared to the newer performers there that day, he looked like he had been playing in front of large crowds for years. In some way, he knew what the crowd wanted and was able to deliver that without hesitation. Even Miguel’s band looked well rehearsed as they rocked alongside him.

He performed over five songs that night, before giving the stage away to the next set of artist. The Migos were good, but the audience showed more enthusiasm than they did. So much that, it seemed like Migos shouldn’t have had the closing spot. Up against Miguel, they didn’t have the energy or the intimate connection with the audience. It also didn’t help that their speakers went out halfway through their performance, prohibiting the crowd n the back from hearing anything. All in all, I believe they still have some growth that needs to be done.

Miguel may not be the best performing artist of our time, but when included in a lineup of people with barely five years under their belt, his expertise as a seasoned performer sticks out like a sore thumb. Hopefully Hood Celebrity, H.E.R., Daniel Caesar, Nipsey, Cardi, and Migos all got a chance to watch Miguel on stage, as it could help them the next time they have a show.

Plan B Releases 4th Album ‘Heaven Before All Hell Breaks Loose’

    0

BRIT Award winner, cultural commentator, critically acclaimed director and actor, and musical maverick Ben Drew, aka Plan B, has released his anticipated fourth studio album, ‘Heaven Before All Hell Breaks Loose’ (HBAHBL) today via Atlantic Records.

The artwork for HBAHBL focuses around the classic sci-fi image of world renowned illustrator John Harris, tying in Plan B’s fascination with the world we live in and the future we’re creating for ourselves. It also sees Plan B collaborating with other writers and producers for the first time, including Arrow Benjamin (Runnin’ Naughty Boy/Beyonce); Foy Vance (Ed Sheeran); Fred Gibson (Ellie Goulding, Charli XCX), and Kid Harpoon (Florence and the Machine, HAIM). HBAHBL is available to pre-order now here – https://atlanti.cr/planb-hbahbl.

In support of HBAHBL, Plan B will play an intimate UK tour, showcasing brand new material from the new album, as well as classic tracks from his critically acclaimed back catalogue. The six-date tour takes in Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Southend and Bristol, before finishing up on 3 May at London’s O2 Brixton Academy. Tickets are available via: http://www.time4planb.co.uk/

A truly defiant figure in the world of music, Ben Drew’s diverse creativity is inexhaustible. His raw, incendiary debut album, Who Needs Actions When You Got Words broke new ground for UK hip hop in 2006, a loud, proud, obscenity-riddled scream of anger and pride from the streets of East London. But a part of Ben always stayed faithful to the soul he’d first heard as a child, and his sophomore album The Defamation Of Strickland Banks saw him marry the two together with astounding success, achieving quadruple-platinum status, hitting the #1 album spot and selling over 1.4 million copies in the UK alone, plus seeing him win both a BRIT and three Ivor Novello’s. His 2012 directorial debut (and accompanying album) iLLManors saw him smashing boundaries with his creative style of overlapping stories and interweaving rap-narrative, boldly addressing socio-political issues with his often brutal cultural commentary, seeing Ben nominated for his fifth BRIT Award, being nominated for his first Mercury Music prize, and once again hitting #1 in the UK album chart.

Leon Bridges Rises From No Opportunity To Loving The World Stage

Good Thing, the follow up to Leon’s critically acclaimed, award-winning, certified Gold debut album Coming Home, was Executive Produced by Ricky Reed and Niles City Sound and Produced by Ricky Reed. Leon and his longtime collaborators and Coming Home producers, Niles City Sound, headed out west to work with Reed with the goal of taking Leon’s music in a more modern R&B direction while staying true to his signature style.
    Leon Bridges Continues-1
Prior to the full release of Good Thing, Leon treated fans to break out tracks “Beyond”, and prior to that, “Bet Ain’t Worth the Hand” and “Bad Bad News”. Leon, known for his aesthetic and personal style, released visuals for the latter two of the tracks; directed by Natalie Rae the videos can be seen here and here. “Bad Bad News” has soared to a Top 5 ranking at Triple A Radio in just 4 weeks.
Critical and fan support for Leon never wavered, with the album locking in positive reception from Esquire and Billboard to Rolling Stone and Relix, whose cover Leon currently graces. Newsweek proclaims the album to be “…wide-ranging” and notes that Good Thing’s modern sound is “…anything but bad, bad news.” Stereogum enthuses that Good Thing is “…a pleasing creative evolution that builds upon his classic foundation without leaving it behind.” NPR’s All Things Considered will air a feature interview with Leon on May 4 and he will perform on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert the week of May 7.
    Leon Bridges Continues-2
Leon will also support the release of Good Thing with an extended tour. The tour has multiple sold-out dates including two nights at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and a sold out night at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. For tickets, timing and additional details please visit Leon’s website.

Good Thing is born from the song “Bad Bad News”, which contains the line “They say that I was born to lose, but I made a good good thing, out of bad bad news”. By now Leon’s backstory is well known; he went from working as a dishwasher and struggling through the open mic scene in his native Fort Worth, Texas to two-time Grammy-nominated artist performing at the White House for President Obama, attending the Met Gala and appearing on Saturday Night Live in a two-year span. What’s more, UK’s The Daily Telegraph premiered Aisha’s visceral session video for “Splintered,” explaining: “Badru sings in a tone reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s nightingale voice…the song is a call for people to take control of their lives because, as the New York storyteller explains, ‘the world isn’t broken, we are.’” Watch the video HERE.

Intersecting cinematic production, lilting instrumentation, and mesmerizing vocals, Pendulum swings from moments of socio political unrest to intimate ruminations on love and life. The entrancing first single “Fossil Fuels” garnered early praise from numerous tastemakers. Clash proclaimed, “Each note feels expertly placed with her soulful delivery set against some subtly intense electronics” as The Wild Honey Pieechoed, “‘Fossil Fuels’ is significant for many reasons, from Aisha’s captivating voice to its lyrical content, this song hits all the right notes.” The track-listing is rounded out by the previously released “Bridges” and the powerful and irresistible “Mind On Fire”—which currently exceeds 11 million cumulative Spotify streams.

KaraJishi Unveil Eargasmic New Single “Killin Mine”

In Japanese, KaraJishi means “Chinese Lion Dog,” a magical being with supernatural powers and the ability to ward off evil spirits. You’ll likely find a pair of these Lion Dogs standing guard outside the gates of a Japanese Shinto or Buddhist temple, preventing evil from entering the premises.

And, so, it seems appropriate that when musicians Ben Strick and Elijah Blake decided to collaborate, they named their finished product KaraJishi. Upon meeting, the two discovered a mutual love for Japanese culture, and never held a recording session without a special brew of Japanese tea. Not to mention that Ben and Elijah also seem to be magical beings with supernatural powers – musically speaking, of course.

KaraJishi has now revealed the next installment from their debut EP entitled “Killin Mine.” “‘Killin Mine’ is about millennials going above and beyond to live up to these unrealistic superficial standards we are now often confronted,” says Blake. “Ben’s production plus that iconic piano solo in the bridge is just something you don’t hear much in music now at all. All the more reason why I love how unapologetically placed it is in through your KaraJishi Sonics.”

“Killin Mine follows first single “Give up the Ghost,” a haunting 4-minute track that brilliantly showcases Elijah’s impressive vocal range and Ben’s remarkable ability as both an instrumentalist and a producer.

“We really want to push the boundaries of what modern pop music can be,” shares Strick. “We’d like to change the game a little, by combining our two styles and making this music accessible. We’re mixing Elijah’s R&B side with my sort of weird, progressive metal and rock, to make something completely new.”
