California Declares Monkeypox State Emergency
Governor Gavin Newsom declared Mokeypox a state emergency after an influx of outbreaks in California. Other states that have declared Monkeypox a state emergency include Illinois and New York. According to CNBC, these states make up 47% of all cases in the U.S. As infections rise so has the demand for vaccines. Monkeypox is now a global emergency, as declared by The World Health Organization.
Vin Scully Dies
Vin Scully, the voice of the Dodgers for 67 years, recently passed away. Scully was the iconic voice for the Los Angeles Dodgers that many knew and loved. Scully started voicing for the Dodgers in 1950 at the age of 22 and retired at 67. Dodgers president Stan Kasten said, “We have lost an icon”.Skully had a strong impact on many people and his voice continues to live on.
Biden Gets Covid Twice
President Joe Biden was first diagnosed with Covid-19th on July 21st. Shortly after overcoming the infection, Biden tested positive again experiencing a rebound infection. Biden’s rebound infection has sparked a discussion around the CDC’s current isolation policy. The CDC currently advises those who test positive for covid to isolate themselves for 5 days after testing positive. People should also continue to wear a mask in public for up to ten days since the initial positive test. Biden will continue to rest until he tests negative again.
Update In Ukraine
As the war in Ukraine continues to surge, here are some important updates. Last Friday, Russian forces attacked a prison in Eastern Ukraine resulting in 40 deaths. CNN reported that President Volodymyr Zelensky described the attack as a “deliberate war crime committed by the Russians.” The Ukrainian president urged that Russia be recognized as a terrorist state as a result of these attacks. There is now an investigation into the Olenivka attack. Russia continues to blame Ukraine for these attacks.
California’s Mckinney Fire
California, home to some of the worst wildfires, is currently battling the Mckinney Fire. According to CNN, the fire has spread to more than 56,000 acres and has forced thousands to evacuate. At least two people died from the fire. Two bodies were found in a vehicle in a driveway of a home. The fire continues to rage on and threaten thousands of homes and land.
