Spike Lee works on new art

Spike Lee, Morehouse College alum and film icon, has entered in a new lane. His collaboration for this musical will be eye opening. The screenplay is to be co-written by Lee and Kwame Kwei-Armah and is based on David Kushner’s 2018 Esquire article “All Rise: The Untold Story of The Guys Who Launched Viagra.”

Spike Lee like all artists need inspiration

Lee pays tribute to his mother, Ms. Jacquelyn Shelton Lee, who inspired this project. I thank my late mother for dragging me, kicking and screaming, to the movies when I was a kid growing up in Brooklyn. I didn’t want to watch people singing and dancing.

I wanted to play with my friends on the block, enjoying various games like basketball, football, and more. My mom was a cinephile, so I became her movie date despite my complaints about musicals. Now, after four decades as a filmmaker, I’m excited to direct a dancing, all-singing musical Spike Lee Joint. My mom has been waiting for this too! That’s the truth!

Lee will produce under his 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks banner. Gw will work along with Matt Jackson of Jackson Pictures.

Film fanatics will be on the lookout for Lee’s take on the birth of viagra. No release date has been scheduled yet though.
