Cherokee takes us on a comfy Trap (Hip Hop) adventure in her most recent single, “I Mean It.” Here, Cherokee offers us beautiful colored chords and funky bass lines that integrate modern-day and 2000s in the beat.

She talks about a breakup and how she got to move on by writing this piece, making it with funny skits and notable lyrics. This song would get you pumped and have you rocking it on your way to your next appointment to stimulate the mood for the day.

We recommend adding Cherokee’s “I Mean It” to your favorite Trap (Hip Hop) playlist.

Cherokee had a conversation with us and answered our distinctive 8 Questions. Check it out below.

HYPEFRESH: So tell us, how did it all begin? What encouraged you to start playing and making music?

Cherokee: I started writing poetry while playing basketball at Livingstone College in North Carolina.

I then moved to Atlanta and worked as a server, and I would always come up with random bars and share them with my coworkers. They always thought it was someone else’s lines or music, and I was like, Nah, this is mine.

So after a boyfriend of mine at the time got locked up, I got angry and decided to book a studio session, and from there, it became history.

HYPEFRESH: Talk me through your creative process when you write new music.

Cherokee: When it comes to music, it just comes to me randomly; I could be at work or the gym. Once I have a chorus stuck in my head, I’ll voice-record it so I don’t forget.

Then I’ll run to my producer Rattlxr and tell him the idea and what I hear in my head. He then creates the beat; sometimes, it can take hours for me to pick specific instruments and sounds I want to hear. But once it’s all composed, I record a rough draft in his garage, and I use it to write, and I’ll take that to the studio.

HYPEFRESH: Can you tell us about your new single, I Mean It?

Cherokee: Yes, so my new song, I mean it, is one of the many songs I’m excited about off my upcoming EP at 7:43 AM. When I was upset during a breakup, the chorus came to me, and I took that anger to the studio.

It allowed me to have fun while venting and also allowed me to show my personality through the little skits I have throughout the song. In the verses, I’m having fun while reminding myself why I’m not that girl to be played with.

HYPEFRESH: What do you like most about being a music artist?

Cherokee: My favorite part is being creative. I’m full of creativity, so once I’m done in the studio, I can put my creative energy into videos and other fun content. I just love seeing my ideas come to life.

HYPEFRESH: What projects do you have coming up? Can you give us any info on them?

Cherokee: Yes, I have an EP called 7:43 AM, dropping on 10/28/22. This EP shows every emotion we go through during and after a breakup. It’s a 5 track project that starts at the beginning of the break up to where the last track, I Can Do, talks about how I’m past the breakup and can do better than this.

I was beyond vulnerable in my song I Wish where I talk about how I wish you the best in the chorus, but once you hear the verses, you hear the truth on how I don’t and that I’m hurt, but I’m moving on.

In January, I plan on filming a colossal video that will be shot more like a movie, where every scene will show the emotions of each song, and I will take you through the journey of a breakup and all the raw emotions that it brings. Bringing all the words to live music is my goal in this video.

HYPEFRESH: Any tips for readers getting into music?

Cherokee: It takes time. You need to remember who you are at all times. You don’t have to do that just because a specific artist is doing something. Create your lane, and you will push through all the noise.

HYPEFRESH: How do you solve productivity/scheduling problems and reduce overwhelming situations?

Cherokee: Making sure I create a routine for myself. Especially when I’m off work because I can just sit at home and watch my shows all day. When it comes to stress, I just remember it’s in God’s hands, and I can only control what I can, and the rest is his.

HYPEFRESH: Name Three things you can’t live without when recording in the studio.

Cherokee: My engineer T.Ross, I would cry without him. I sometimes doubt myself in the studio, and he will reassure me and get me out of being in my head. A comfy couch to write on. And some good food.
