Lana Del Rey Recites From Her New Audiobook

Lana Del Rey recently shared a video of herself reciting poetry from her new audiobook of poems, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass.

In the video, Lana shares her spoken word piece “Salamander”. The singer shared the post on Twitter this past Saturday.

The video features an emotional reading of the piece, emphasized by the grey skies and dull colors in the picture. Lana reads with a soft-spoken tone, capturing the mood of the poem. “Salamander” is filled with drama. Hitting us in our core, one of the poem’s lines reads, “I love you, but you don’t understand me”.

Lana looks up at the camera through her sorrow-filled eyes between lines. The mood is further exemplified thanks to Jack Antonoff’s instrumentation, filling the silence in the background. Antonoff’s production included whimsical, mysterious sounds filled with sentiment.

Antonoff is known for being a member of the indie rock band Fun, as well as his work with artists such as Taylor Swift, Lorde, St. Vincent and Kevin Abstract.

Lana Del Rey’s debut book, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass, will be released in late September. Meanwhile, the audiobook was released on July, 28th.

The upcoming poetry book will include over thirty original poems, along with photographs, released by Simon & Schuster.

Lana plans to donate half of the project’s proceeds to the Navajo Water Project. The Navajo Water Project focuses on bringing running water and solar power to families in need.

You can now stream one of Lana Del Rey’s audiobook poems from Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass, “LA Who Am I To Love You”, on Spotify.
