Portland native singer, songwriter, and producer Evvnflo breaks fresh ground with his incredible new single “Anniversary.” In his recent work, the musician talks about love uniquely and especially, and the musician manages to captivate and hold the attention of all listeners.
Evvnflo had a chat with us and answered our three distinctive Questions. Check it out below.
HYPEFRESH: To begin, let’s introduce ourselves. Share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with about your name, age, and where you’re from.
Evvnflo: My name is Evan “evvnflo” Simko. I produced the song “Anniversary,” which features Hussle Raimone, Meezy, and myself singing/rapping. I’d prefer not to speak about myself much because this song is a group effort. It has been released both by myself and Hussle Raimone, featuring others because of that. I’d love to make this write-up more about the song.
HYPEFRESH: Can you tell us about your new single, “Anniversary”?
Evvnflo: Hussle Raimone wrote the hook and a verse to begin the song, and Meezy and I wrote based on the topic of the hook. The beat for Anniversary is an epic R&B joint.
The beat was even called “epic” as a working title. When Raimone heard it, he said, “Why didn’t you show me this one earlier?” and began writing the hook immediately. The drum part builds and climaxes, then breaks down and makes again. When we get in the studio, we often try to get the hook first to keep on topic. Plus, the hook is the essential part of the vocals frequently.
Raimone writes fire hooks without needing too much time. If we need to touch things up later, we do, but we like to strike while the irons are hot regarding inspiration. Meezy came with a dope verse but, at first, was rapping it more aggressively.
Eventually, we gave feedback saying, “what if you toned it down just a notch, and you added more singing background vocals rather than rapping to tie it in and make it cohesive” He tried it out, and it turned out perfect. I wrote my verse to match the others esthetically with a bit of singing but to put my twist and make it a little more of a double-time bounce in some places.
HYPEFRESH: What do you like most about being a music artist?
Evvnflo: I enjoy putting music together by recording and collaborating with people whose musical taste I trust and artists who I get along with. Performing shows when the audience is fully invested and engaging in call and response is always great. Defining your identity and sharing it through music keeps me going. The mic is like therapy.
