LeBron James Becomes The NBA’s All Time Leading Scorer

Congrats to LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers for becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer!

At the end of the third quarter, James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar by scoring his 36th point of the night against the Oklahoma City Thunder for a career total of 38,388 points.

The former scoring champion was in attendance to see the record he set on April 5, 1984, be broken by a kid from Akron, Ohio.

James is in great form this season. He’s currently averaging 30 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 7.1 assist a game in his 20th season. He could be the first player to cross 40,000 before it is all said and done.

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer got over 23,000 points in eleven seasons he spent with the Cleveland Cavaliers. With the Miami heat, he scored nearly 8000 points. James scored over 7,300 points in his time with Los Angeles.

LeBron James is already the NBA’s all-time scorer in the postseason. He has made the postseason 15 times and spent the majority of the last decade in the NBA Finals.

Surprisingly many of LeBron James’ critics don’t consider him a pure scorer like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. His critics can’t really say much now.

While James is the all-time leading scorer, he currently sits in 4th place all-time in the assist record with over 10,000. The next record Lebron James can break is the all-time assist record set by John Stockton. He’s unlikely to reach Stockton’s record. He would need another 8-10 great seasons to possibly pass it but most likely finish his career second all-time.
