Celebrity Breakups of 2023: Which Couples Didn’t Make It?

The biggest celebrity breakups of 2023! Celebrity couples will always be a major headline for us ordinary folk. They become even more buzzworthy when the power couple decides to break up. 2023 saw more than its fair share of celebrity couple heartbreak.

Whether messy or amicable, these celebrity splits are the talk of the town. Let’s check out the most prominent celebrity breakups of 2023 to see who called it quits.

10. Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas also called it quits this year. Their relationship lasted four years before coming to an end. They have the two beautiful children together and will work out the co-parenting.

9. Elle Fanning and Max Minghella

Elle Fanning and Max Minghella sparked romance rumors back in 2018 when they emerged holding hands in Florence, Italy. The couple kept their relationship private for the most part. Though they made a rare red carpet appearance together for Minghella’s film Babylon.

Elle Fanning recently revealed she has love on the brain moving forward. Though she doesn’t do this with Minghella in mind, she does hope to have kids one day. If that’s the case, her next boyfriend might have to be closer in age to her.

8. Cher and Alexander Edwards

Cher (77) and AE (37) called it quits after their relatively short-lived romance. They started with a few dates in 2022 and ended in April 2023. Their split came on the heels of a swirl of engagement and marriage rumors.

It’s a shame the music executive and the singer didn’t last. They are reportedly separating due to “personal reasons,” whatever that means.

7. Bella Hadid and Marc Kalman

Bella Hadid is one of the most high-profile models in Hollywood. Any time she’s seen with a new love interest, rumors fly. She locked down quite a few high-profile relationships over the years.

Including her fling with Matthew Morton and Australian model Jordan Barrett. She was also the prime suspect of a ton of rumored flings over the years. Before her split with Marc Kalman, they were (reportedly) very happy.

Sources say they decided to end things because their schedules didn’t work out. Despite their split, the two are still friends and even follow each other on Instagram. The breakup, though uneventful, was healthy and honest like all breakups should be.

6. Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello

Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara’s fairytale romance looked like something straight out of a movie. They began dating in 2014, got engaged in 2015, and married in a star-studded ceremony in November 2015. The Modern Family actress and True Blood alum were total couple goals.

But it seems that their differences in temperament led to the end of their marriage. In legal documents filed on July 17, Manganiello cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation. He also asked the court to split their assets, including property they owned before and during their seven-year union.

The “Modern Family” actress and her Magic Mike XXL actor sparked divorce rumors in July before officially calling it quits. They also reportedly struggled to agree on children and lifestyle choices.

5. Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn

It’s not exactly a secret that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn had a very private relationship. Despite the media being all over all of Taylor’s relationships, the pair was rarely spotted together. The “Picture to Burn” singer even wrote songs about her love for the British actor.

Soon after, rumors began swirling that the duo reconciled again. An Instagram post seemed to cite Entertainment Tonight, claiming that they were back together. However, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the account in question was actually a spoof of Pop Crave.

This batch of seemingly “fake news” deterred people from believing the fake report. Will Taylor and Joe patch things up, or will Taylor move on to yet another relationship?

4. Ashley Darby and Luke Gulbranson

This breakup was reasonably predictable but juicy nonetheless. After meeting at BravoCon in October, Real Housewives of Potomac star Ashley Darby seemed to make it official with Summer House alum Luke Gulbranson.

She also named him as someone she’d like to see added to the cast in an episode of Watch What Happens Live. The two appeared together in December, attending the launch of Luke’s beer at Cowboy Jack’s in Minneapolis.

In a photo she shared on Instagram, the pair joined Summer House stars engaged couple Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard. While it’s never fun to see a celebrity couple split, it’s especially heartbreaking when they’re high-profile, like Ashley and Luke.

3. Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth were a celebrity couple who appeared to have it all. They were both stars of Blades of Glory and Arrested Development. Before their split, they had two beautiful children together.

Unfortunately, their marriage fell apart this year. The actress filed for divorce from her 51-year-old husband last month. Despite its recent happening, it seems as though Toth has already moved on.

He vacationed at a resort in Costa Rica with an unidentified, yet different, woman. Witherspoon’s split from Toth was her second divorce. This follows her nine-year marriage to Ryan Phillippe.

She cited “personality differences” in her divorce filing. Luckily, she has her kids to keep her happy.

2. Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun

Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun put an end to it all only a few months after they got engaged. The pair first started dating in February, then got engaged in March of the same year. They even collaborated on a song together, “Flames.”

The couple share a 10-year-old son, Tennesee James, and remain committed to co-parenting. It seems that the split came as a surprise to some fans, but it was a mutual decision. It’s not clear what caused the couple to break up, but they did appear to be amicable as of late.

They still follow each other on Instagram, and Mod Sun even opened up about their breakup on his tour. He ended up saying that his fans and the tour life have been a big help to him. They’re likely taking some time off to recharge.

1. Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix

We’ve seen some pretty surprising celebrity couples break up this year, but there’s something about this one that stood out from the rest. In a society that chastises men for, well, everything, it’s interesting to hear about a female celebrity cheater.

In Howie Mandel’s podcast, Tom Sandoval talked about Ariana’s actions. To our surprise, Tom actually defended his cheating partner and enabled her to get away with it. Madix, a bartender on Vanderpump Rules, joined the show in its early days and became a cast regular.

She’s a popular character and a fan favorite. She was also treated poorly by Sandoval throughout the seasons. On the season 10 reunion, Tome got angry at her for wanting to write a cocktail book.

He then, for some reason, refused to fertilize her eggs. Many fans labeled Sandoval as cruel and insensitive.

It also didn’t help that she recently lost her grandmother as well as her dog. That’s some serious trauma. No wonder she landed a restraining order against him.
