Rapper Busta Rhymes’ near-death experience! Bussa Bus is a legend in his own right, but he’s also an inspiration to many for the amazing transformation he went through after losing more than 100 pounds.
In a new interview with Men’s Health, the “Protect Ya Neck” rapper opened up about a few reckoning moments that led to his weight loss and health transformation. He revealed that the murder of his friend and mentor Nipsey Hussle, as well as a conversation with one of his sons, pushed him to take control of his health.
Busta Rhymes’ near-death experience
Busta Rhymes helped pioneer tongue-twisting rap skills. He also stood out due to his particularly large frame for a rapper. He wasn’t always in the best of shape, like most big people as they age.
He struggled with issues like weight gain and sleep apnea. On top of that, his life went downhill after he lost a friend in 2012. When he lost his father in 2014, he tried to himself into his work and taking care of his six children.
He developed poor eating habits, and then stopped working out. Luckily, he reached a turning point in early 2019. In 2019, he underwent emergency surgery for throat polyps.
His life was on the line when 90% of his breathing became restricted. The rapper lost a whopping 100 pounds in a few months after the surgery. He shared his incredible journey on Instagram to encourage fans in the same struggle.
