Highland Park shooter Robert Crimo III makes first court appearance since the deadly shooting. The city of Highland Park will forever have a different way of celebrating the 4th of July. Following the Highland Park Parade shooting, the city grapples with understanding the events of that day. The annual Fourth of July Parade meant to be a time of celebration turned tragic as gunman Robert E Crimo III killed 7 people and injured more than 20 others. The alleged gunman appears in court facing multiple charges.

As Crimo appeared for his bond hearing showing little remorse, more details about the shooting emerge. Via CBS, Crimo confessed to the crime and to planning the attack weeks in advance. Crimo used a high-power rifle as he targeted victims from a rooftop. Officials stated Crimo dressed in woman’s clothing to conceal his identity during the attack. The rifle used during the attack was purchased legally by Crimo, as well as several other guns found belonging to him.

A judge has ordered Crimo be held without bail. Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rineheart stated more charges are expected to come in the future. Crimo who is only 22 years old, showed signs of violence before this attack. Under the name “Awake The Rapper“, Crimo displays his love for violent acts. In one video he is seen in school setting with bullets on the ground. Streaming services like YouTube, Spotify and others have all removed any accounts associated with Crimo.

Still recovering from the horrific details of that day, the city of Highland Park pushes forward. Officials cleaned the streets as locals payed respects to those who lost their lives. This shooting marks the 309th mass shooting in the US for 2022, with Chicago having 57 killings over the holiday weekend.
