young n sang’s “PERMAFROST” Collection is Inspired by the Indigenous People of the Arctic

Following its exploration of swimwear with its Spring/Summer 2023 “merman” collection, young n sang has returned with its latest collection of handwoven clothing. Titled “PERMAFROST,” the sustainable range is inspired by the Inuit, the indigenous people of the arctic that have long sanctified clothes making to survive the severe cold.

Inhabiting the Arctic and subarctic regions of Greenland, Labrador, Quebec, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and Alaska, the Inuit devote effort, time, and craftsmanship to the handwoven wares that were directly related to their survival. The feeling of homogeneity with the Inuit and how the treated clothes served as a starting point of the “PERMAFROST” collection for young n sang.

The handwoven line focuses on sustainably with the use of organic threads and vintage fabrics sourced between the 1970s and 2000s that provide unique textures, colors, and shapes. Aside from the fabrics woven by hand on looms, young n sang also utilized recycled duck and goose filling for warmth functionality without sacrificing its appreciation for environmentalism. Accompanying the new and updated designs, the label also assembled motorcycle gloves, Inuit boots, down jackets, and fur hoods drawn from the outfitting of the indigenous inspiration.
