Leaked Call Reveals Young Thug’s Surprising Advice to 21 Savage

Late on the evening of August 29, 2025, a 34-second audio recording went viral on X, Instagram, and YouTube. In the leaked telephone jail call, a voice purported to be that of Young Thug is heard telling rapper 21 Savage:

“I ain’t tell Unfoonk to take no plea, bruh. That was his call, not mine.”

The video became viral in no time and gained millions of views and active debate on issues of loyalty, cooperation, and credibility among the Young Stoner Life (YSL) membership.

The timing couldn’t be more explosive. This comes amid Georgia’s longest-running criminal trial, where Thug faces racketeering charges under the state’s RICO statute a law designed to prosecute organized crime networks.

The call surfaced on LiveBitez, a platform known for releasing high-profile jail recordings. Fans quickly re-posted the video, framing it as a bombshell that proved contrary to prior reports of YSL plea deals.

But the bottom line is that the authenticity of the recording has not been separately proven. No official court exhibits, source files, or metadata have been provided.

The YSL RICO case began in May 2022, when Fulton County prosecutors indicted 28 defendants connected to Young Thug’s label, Young Stoner Life Records. Authorities allege the group doubled as Young Slime Life, a violent street gang linked to robbery, drug trafficking, and even murder.

RICO stands for Racketeer Influenced & Corrupt Organizations Act and lets prosecutors charge more than one person with participating in a group criminal organization without them actually taking part in each of the alleged crimes.

Young Thug, born Jeffery Lamar Williams, initially fought the charges but took a non-negotiated guilty plea on October 31, 2024 after rejecting earlier deals offering up to 45 years with 25 to serve.

Hours after the clip surfaced, HotNewHipHop reported that Young Thug had tweeted:

“Told my brada take the plea, don’t let ‘em bury you.”

The tweet was deleted within minutes, leaving fans split on whether the leaked call contradicts Thug’s stance or whether someone else posted on his behalf.

Thug’s brother, Quantavious Grier (aka Unfoonk), accepted a negotiated plea deal on December 20, 2022. Initially, he received probation, but in June 2023, a Fulton County judge revoked it after a firearm arrest, sentencing him to 9½ years in prison.

This timeline matters because the leaked clip suggests Thug played no role in Unfoonk’s decision a claim now under intense scrutiny.

A plea bargain is a situation where a defendant agrees to pleading guilty to lesser crimes in exchange for lighter sentences. Prosecutors favor them to save trial costs defendants often take them to avoid harsher penalties.

In this case, more than a dozen YSL co-defendants have already taken pleas a trend fueling tension among fans and insiders over who “cooperated” and who stayed silent.

Hip-hop Twitter erupted overnight. Some fans praised Thug for “standing on business,” while others accused him of “spinning narratives.”

Attorney Melinda Carter, a Georgia-based defense lawyer, told us:

“If the clip is real, it raises questions about who decided what. But without verified context, it’s risky to draw conclusions.”

Several of the rappers, including Lil Baby and Gunna, have been quiet so far, and no statement has been issued by 21 Savage’s management to clarify anything.

The YSL case has been a hot spot for the intersection of hip-hop culture, free speech, and the criminal justice system. Prosecutors famously utilized the rap songs and social media messages in the case in a way that critics frame as racist against Black rappers.

Whether the leaked conversation is genuine or not, the aftermath is very real in terms of impacting public opinion, fan loyalty, and possibly defense plans within the courthouse.
