Another controversial audio clip from Young Thug’s 2015 police interrogation has resurfaced, sparking renewed debate about “snitching” allegations against the Atlanta rapper. The viral snippet, now circulating widely on social media, captures Thug telling detectives:
“Promises… I made promises… whatever anything you wanna know in time I’ma tell you but don’t tell the world.”
The recording originates from a two-hour interrogation in 2015, when Thug—born Jeffery Williams—was arrested for making terroristic threats at a mall. While in custody, detectives also questioned him about the shooting of Lil Wayne’s tour bus, an incident involving associate Peewee Roscoe.
In the whole interrogation, Thug makes several remarks that critics argue suggest cooperation. Alongside the “promises” comment, he allegedly mentioned Roscoe by name and referred to his activities. Although the clip has circulated online intermittently for nearly two years, it recently gained viral traction, reigniting controversy.
Thug has firmly rejected the snitching allegations, addressing the uproar on X (formerly Twitter). “They didn’t play my interrogation video in court cause I helped my brada #Ratwhere?” he posted, insisting the footage shows him protecting Roscoe rather than incriminating him.
The rapper also shared court filings disputing the credibility of detective testimony.
“Stop trying to make me one of those boys,” he wrote. “This motion got filed cause the detective lied and said I made a statement in back of a police car… that never ever happened.”
Roscoe, who was convicted in connection with the tour bus shooting, has defended Thug in a video circulating online. He described the rapper as “clean as Listerine” and “clean as ivory soap,” insisting Thug “kept it silent, kept it overly real.”
According to Roscoe, Thug’s interrogation remarks were not incriminating but rather part of what “a real street [person]” does when faced with police questioning. “He actually tried to pull me out the hole,” Roscoe said.
The resurfaced clip has also revived debate about the treatment of other artists facing snitching allegations—most notably, Gunna. In December 2022, Gunna took an Alford plea in the sweeping YSL RICO case. Young Thug publicly distanced himself from the rapper, tweeting (and later deleting) that Gunna should “stop acting like we friends.”
Now, some fans are pointing out a perceived hypocrisy. One reply to Thug’s defense read: “Not mad at video. Mad at the fact you disowned your brother Gunna over doing what he had to do. System used him same way they used you.”
DJ Akademiks commented that snitching accusations often reflect personal bias: “If you ask me that somebody we like snitch, no snitching. Somebody we don’t like, all right, we going to look into it.”
The controversy arrives just as Young Thug prepares for his musical comeback with the album UY Scuti, his first since his October 2024 release from jail. Under his plea deal, he faces 15 years of probation and restrictions on travel and lyrical content. The media has cast a shadow over his return. While fans remain divided, the controversy underscores a larger question hanging over hip-hop: who gets labeled a “snitch” and gets a pass?
