Former President Barack Obama had the crowd laughing during a campaign rally in Newark, New Jersey, on Friday, when he responded to a flirty comment from a supporter in true Obama fashion — with humor, charm, and a nod to his wife, Michelle Obama.
Obama was on stage speaking in support of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill when a woman in the crowd called out to him. The former president paused his speech, smiled, and turned toward her before responding:
“I love you, but hold on. I heard you, girl. Just settle down. I’m here to talk to everybody, not just you. I mean, you look cute, but I’m married. Michelle’s fine too.”
The crowd erupted into laughter and applause, and the lighthearted moment quickly went viral on social media, with fans praising Obama’s quick wit and effortless charm.
Clips of the exchange spread rapidly across X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, where users referred to the moment as “peak Obama” and joked that Michelle would “definitely approve.”
The 44th president — who has been married to Michelle for 33 years — is currently hitting the campaign trail to rally support for Democrats ahead of key 2025 elections in New Jersey and Virginia. Despite the serious tone of the event, Obama’s good-natured response provided a welcome dose of levity.

It’s not the first time Obama has shown off his comedic side at a public event. Throughout his presidency and beyond, he has been known to defuse unexpected moments with humor while maintaining his focus on the bigger message.
