Fishtank Finalist Ellie Tragically Dies by Suicide at Age 19

Eleanor “Ellie” Moon, a finalist on the controversial online reality streaming series Fishtank Season 4, has died by suicide at the age of 19.

The news was confirmed by Moon’s older sister on Reddit on July 16, 2026, in a statement posted to the r/fishtankdotlive subreddit. The family had initially kept the death private following the May 2026 passing, but chose to address growing online speculation and misinformation in the post.

In the statement, Moon’s sister explicitly stated that the show and its team had no connection to the tragedy. “Jet, Fishtank, and the whole thing had nothing to do with her taking her life. In fact, they were the highlight of her life,” she wrote. According to the family, Ellie was notably happier and more excited about life during and after her time on the series, and the crew had been supportive throughout the family’s grieving process.

Moon joined Fishtank Season 4 as a last-minute replacement in July 2025 at age 18. She quickly stood out among the contestants for her sharp humor, engaging personality and memorable presence, advancing to the finalist stage before the season ended earlier than planned due to external issues. Participants, including Moon, shared in the prize pool.

Her sister detailed that Ellie had struggled with suicidal thoughts since childhood, stemming from a difficult upbringing. The family cited their mother as a central source of many of those challenges and suggested Ellie may have had an undiagnosed mental illness. At the time of her death, she was prescribed SSRIs and there were no drugs involved, the statement clarified.

The post also criticized toxic elements of internet culture, including unfounded blame, harassment and calls for further tragedy, describing such behavior as “evil, sick, and demonic.” The family asked for privacy as they continue to mourn.

The news marks the third reported death among former Fishtank contestants. On Reddit, the community responded with an outpouring of condolences, with many sharing fond memories of Moon as a smart, funny and kind presence on the show.
