Divorce rumors have dogged Barack and Michelle Obama for years, but the former first couple just shut them down with a mix of humor and heart.
In a recent interview, they opened up about their marriage, laughing off the gossip and sharing why their bond remains unbreakable.
The conversation kicked off with a lighthearted jab from the host:
“Wait, you guys like each other?”
Barack chuckled, responding,
“Oh, yeah, really, huh?”
The host, clearly thrilled, added,
“That’s awesome.”
Michelle jumped in with a grin, saying,
“It’s my husband, y’all. She took me back.”
The playful exchange set the tone, showing their ease with each other and the rumors.
“It’s so nice to have you both in the same room together,”
The host noted, pointing out how their joint appearance countered the speculation. Michelle agreed, saying,
“I know. Because when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.”
Their busy schedules, often pulling them in different directions, have fueled the chatter, but they made it clear there’s no truth to it. Barack admitted he’s often oblivious to the rumors.
“These are the kinds of things that I just miss, right?”
He said.
“So I don’t even know this stuff’s going on. And then somebody will mention it to me, and I’m all like, what are you talking about?”
His genuine surprise highlighted how disconnected the gossip is from their reality. Michelle was firm about their commitment.
“There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man,”
She stated.
“And we’ve had some really hard times.”
Her words underscored their challenges, from political pressures to personal struggles, yet they’ve come through stronger. Reflecting on their journey, Michelle added,
“So we have had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures.”
She credited Barack for her growth, saying,
“And I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
The sentiment hit home, with Barack responding,
“OK, don’t make me cry now. Right at the beginning of the show. That’s sweet. Don’t let me start tearing up now.”
The host echoed the emotion, saying,
“It was touching y’all for a while.”
