WIND AND SEA SS23 Takes Notes From 2000s Hip-Hop

Japanese streetwear brand WIND AND SEA is taking design notes from early 2000s hip-hop culture for the Spring/Summer 2023 season. As an homage to the 50th-anniversary celebration of the hip-hop genre, the collection gives a contemporary makeover to traditional styles and classic workwear motifs.

This season, WIND AND SEA focuses on the oversized aesthetic often seen throughout hip-hop culture. With baggy overshirts and trousers, these items provide the undertones to the rest of the collection. The collection also sees the arrival of various relaxed-fit t-shirts in various vibrant colors and patterns like pinstripes, as well as oversized jersey vests. In pants, baggy knee-length shorts and boxy khaki-inspired shorts are matched with laidback cardigans. A full denim set including a light watsh button-up shirt is paired with a matching set of straight jeans. Tailored cargo pants take from the Japanese style of minimalism, featuring a technical flair with zipper slits by the shin.

A new type of typography is seen throughout the collection, created with the idea of people, culture and environment circulating together in mind. The heart motif is a nod to the water constellation while the spade motif means wind constellation. Ranging from classic staples including typical overshirts, sweaters and vests, the collection also includes a series of accessories including caps and knit socks. Check out the collection above and look out for SS23 online.
