    Thousands of pop culture fans in Aberdeen for impressive Comic Con event

    Thousands of pop culture fans descended on P&J Live this weekend as Aberdeen celebrated Comic Con Scotland North East.

    The event, which was first held last year, saw film and TV stars alongside comic creators and cosplayers take to the stage as roughly 15,000 came to witness the spectacle.

    Some of the major names greeting fans this time round were Chandler Riggs from the Walking Dead, Tommy Flannagan from Sons of Anarchy and Grace Van Dien from Stranger Things.

    In panels hosted by social media influencer Valerie Wyndham, they took questions from audience members and discussed their time on some of the world’s most popular television shows.

    Cosplayers came dressed as many iconic characters

    In a panel involving Sons of Anarchy trio Tommy Flannagan, Ryan Hurst and Kim Coates, the Glasgow-born Flanngan goaded Caotes into a humorous rendition of ‘Flower of Scotland’ to the delight of the sea of onlookers.

    On the second day, WWE star Hacksaw Jim Duggan stole the show with his energetic panel.

    The regional heats for the national cosplay championships also took place over the course of the two-day event, while a cosplay masquerade event also took place.

    Dante Basco, known for his roles as Rufio in Hook and Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender, spoke to Valerie Wyndham about his time in the north-east.

    He said: “This is my first time in Scotland, first time in Aberdeen. The people of Aberdeen have been quite lovely; the town is beautifully overcast.”

    Speaking ahead of the weekend, Andy Kleek, CEO of event organisers Monopoly Events, said: “Our commitment to the Scottish public was that we promised to bring the best pop culture events North of the border, and we are sticking to that promise.

    “After an incredible first outing, the public of Aberdeen have truly embraced this event and we look forward to an even bigger event in March 2023.”
