Emerging Hip Hop artist Tanook33 recently released a new single titled “See You Soon,” which features the fantastic rapper Tennishu.
“See You Soon” is a song that puts Tanook33 brilliant musicality on full display as he pours it all out into this stunning track built with a fantastic vibe that uplifts and appeals to fans to dig deeper into his music.
Tanook33 had a chat with us and answered our unique 4 Questions. Check it out below.
HYPEFRESH: To begin, let’s introduce ourselves. Feel free to share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with, such as your name, age, and place of origin.
Tanook33: My name as a producer is Tanook33. My real name is Sam Koff. I am 32 years old, and I am from Richmond, Virginia. Besides being a producer, I am a trumpeter, having toured worldwide with No BS! Brass performed with Sufjan Stevens and played in many bands in my hometown of Richmond. Because the trumpet is my primary instrument, it plays a big part in my sound. Tennishu (Marcus Tenney is his real name) is one of the most incredible musicians I have ever known. I have always admired and was happy to have him on the track.
HYPEFRESH: Can you tell us about your new single, “See You Soon”?
Tanook33: I produced the beat on “See You Soon,” and Tennishu is the featured rapper on the track. I have always wanted to make the soundtrack to an anime. The premise of See You Soon is that the track is a tribute to one of my favorite producers, Nujabes.
My favorites are Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop. The album, titled “Gaze of the Cormorant Vol. 1: The Brown Capes Saga,” is a tribute to those soundtracks. Some friends helped me create a plot to go along with the album.
So the dialogue you hear at the beginning of the track goes along with it. The album was an excellent way for me to showcase so many of my great friends in the music scene in Richmond, Virginia, including Tennishu, on this track.
HYPEFRESH: What do you like most about being a music artist?
Tanook33: I love the collaborative nature of being a music artist. I am happiest when I work with people who put much time and effort into their craft as I do with mine. I can have an idea in my head about something, and then somebody approaches it from a completely different angle — and that can change everything and make it so much better and more fun.
And making this album was a pleasant experience because I got to work with different artists with different perspectives and see people interpret my music and make it so much better. It’s imperative to remember that we are playing.
