The divorce proceedings between Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas took an unexpected turn. The British beauty filed a lawsuit seeking the return of their two children to England. Jonas disputed the claims, saying the court order restricts relocating the kids.
Sophie Turner sues Joe Jonas
Turner alleges the marriage broke down very suddenly after an argument in August. After that, Jonas filed for divorce on September 5th. She says she only learned of the divorce filing through the media days later.
After this, she and Jonas met to discuss their separation plans. There, she reiterated that the kids should return home to England with her. According to her legal documents, they purchased a home in the English countryside. The pair planned to move in December of 2023.
They allegedly sold their Miami home and were in the process of moving the kids over to the new address. Despite this, Turner claims Jonas insisted that the girls would travel with him on his US tour. This would mean that the children were only able to spend about 11 weeks in their new Warwickshire home.
According to Turner’s lawsuit, she argues that the children’s “best interest” lies in England. They have been residing there since April. Their lives are fully integrated into their daily routines of school, extracurricular activities, and other family outings.
Turner also cites the International Child Abduction Remedies Act. She cites the act as the basis for her request that the daughters return to England. She asks a judge to award her reasonable and necessary attorneys’ fees and expenses.
Jonas, 34, responded by calling the lawsuit a harsh legal position. He claims it goes against the amicable co-parenting setup he believed they were working toward.
Joe thought they were working towards this as recently as last Sunday when they met to discuss custody. He adds that the children were born in the United States and have spent the majority of their lives there, making them American citizens.
