Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s decades-long battle in the rap game has recently reached a chilling and odd twist. A shocking chill freestyle overtook Friday evening, and it features some unexpected guest stars – well, sort of.
The internet community was broad by the appearance of rap masters Tupac and Snoop Dogg in the line-up, however, theese verses are generated using AI. This led to a hilarious response by the Doggfather.
Snoop Dogg also posted a viral clip on Instagram to share his thoughts. Snoop has a look on his face that reads, “Wait, they actually….?” he wondered, raising an eyebrow, chuckling amusingly, and pointing at his Death Row Records jacket. His playfulness, however, left fans questioning how he truly felt about the AI impersonation.
Prior to it being exposed, did Snoop have knowledge of it? He hinted with Snoop’s approval that the AI-generated phrases that included dissing Kendrick. Furthermore, did Drake leave a comment on the clip to agree and like it, or just to be humorous?

However, this isn’t Snoop’s first foray into AI music. After all, who could forget last year’s AI-generated Michael Jackson cover of C-Murder’s “Down 4 My N’s” ? Not Snoop, who responded with a succinct “this shit outta’ hand.” The question remains, though: Did Drake ask permission to use Snoop’s voice? No information has been released yet.
AI makes some significant waves in the music industry. From OpenAI’s creation of Jukebox — music in different styles — to the customized app named Endel that adapts soundtracks to your mood — a tool to compose complete songs — actual businesses leveraging on AI to imitate soundalikes of vocalists controversial existence have been found.
One thing’s for sure: with Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle,” AI has officially entered the rap battle arena. Will this be a hilarious one-off, or a sign of things to come? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: the Doggfather will be watching.
