Rapper Desiigner says arrest on flight was due to ‘chemical imbalance’

In a surprising turn of events, rapper Desiigner, known for his high-energy performances and chart-topping hits, found himself in an unusual and troubling situation. He was arrested for indecent exposure on a flight, an incident that he now attributes to a “chemical imbalance.”

On the No Jumper podcast, Desiigner spoke about an incident during his flight from Tokyo to Minneapolis in a very unusual candid interview. The rapper, who rose to fame with his hit single “Panda,” explained that he wasn’t in the right state of mind during the flight—“I was fully tweaked out of my mind. This was when I was vegan, I didn’t have enough sugars and stuff like that. I was kind of, like, out of my body.” Desiigner explained that he had taken some medication at the time and felt cut off from his body, acting strangely.

The 27-year-old rapper had to face charges of indecent exposure and ultimately pleaded guilty to the crime. He was ordered to join the sex offender registry in addition to getting two years’ probation with 120 hours of community service. Desiigner reflected:

“It really wasn’t who my character was,” he continued. “I was on medication and just went to sleep on the plane.” When he landed, he said he was greeted by the FBI and was asked why he exposed and allegedly pleasured himself on the flight. “I had to get back home and get myself back together,” he added. He is reported to have been concerned that he would be seen as “a pervert” at the height of the news coverage.”

The incident unraveled mid-flight when Desiigner became caught masturbating by a flight attendant. He continued his behavior despite repeated requests from the cabin crew to stop, and he was moved to the back of the plane where his friends attempted to manage the situation.

After landing in Minneapolis, Desiigner was interviewed by authorities and made several shocking admissions. He said he was feeling “brick hard” and got turned on by a flight attendant, and mistakenly thought it would give him “encouragement.”

Due to this incident, Desiigner had some legal repercussions; he was condemned to probation, community service, and a fine. In addition, he will be required to undergo psychiatric evaluation and is banned from carrying arms. This instance clearly brings out the interaction of lifestyle choices with their effects on mental health behaviors, even at 30,000 feet.

“For the past few months I have not been OK, and I have been struggling to come to terms with what is going on,” he wrote in a post about his struggles on Instagram Stories. “While overseas for a concert I performed at, I had to be admitted in to a hospital, I was not thinking clearly. They gave me meds, and I had to hop on a plane home.”

”I am ashamed over my actions that transpired on that plane. I landed back to the states, and am admitting myself into a facility to seek help. I will be canceling all of my shows and any obligations until further notice. Mental health is real guys, please pray for me. If your not feeling like yourself please get help.”

Desiigner‘s rise was an intriguing one nonetheless. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, the eventual breakout into the music limelight came through “Panda,” running the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015. At that tender age, he suddenly had traction and was doing some work with Kanye West’s GOOD Music label while doing features in tracks ‘Pt. 2’ and ‘Freestyle 4’ on Kanye West’s “Life of Pablo.”

This real original sound, very upbeat in performance, quickly netted him a huge following. His follow-up single, “Tiimmy Turner,” also picked up steam by placing at number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Desiigner’s life story is an education regarding the pressures and pitfalls that accompany super-fast fame. His recent legal troubles placed a spotlight on mental health and lifestyle decisions, which appeared to shift his behavior. But as he says, in his own words, “I had an unbalance—and due to that—it caused me to act out of character on an airplane,” drawing an image far away from the energetic, very controlled stage performances.

The story is so captivating as Desiigner ranges through the whirlwind that keeps him tangled amidst his career and most intricate details of his personal life. From the heights of chart-topping success toequally high.header legal errors and dark, irreconcilable quandaries of mental sanity, Desiigner‘s story became a truly realized embodiment of the broadness that fame allows and the endurance one needs to overcome unfavorable predicaments.
