Not all families are perfect. Some families don’t even get along with each other. Though, nothing hurts worse than the death in a family. The loss of a family member can be hard on loved ones. HipHop group Rae Sremmund experienced familial loss in January 2020 after their brother allegedly murdered their stepdad. Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi suffered an immense heartbreak.
Their Stepdad’s Alleged Murder
Tons of great rap artists have passed on in 2021 and previous years. Unfortunately, some have even lost family members. Rae Sremmund duo Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi suffered the unfortunate loss of their stepdad last year.
TMZ reported that their step-brother Michael Sullivan, had been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing their stepfather Floyd Sullivan Jr. Police found the stepfather’s body covered in multiple gun wounds. Currently, Michael hasn’t received the death penalty, but if convicted, he will face life in prison.
Rae Sremmund’s Step-Brother Suffers From Mental Health Issues
Given Michael Sullivan’s mental illness, the court might ultimately find him not guilty. Michael’s biological mother, Bernadette Walker, revealed that her son suffers from schizoaffective disorder. The mental illness causes Schizophrenia, leading to mood swings and delusions. Walker admitted that her son experienced episodes prior to him moving in with his father. Sounds like a spell for disaster in the making. During the time of the arrest, Michael received a psychiatric evaluation at a mental facility. Afterwards, police placed him under their custody. He’s not entirely at fault but it could’ve been prevented.
Mourning A Family Member
There’s no way to prepare anyone for the death of a family member. Rae Sremmund rap duo Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi certainly weren’t prepared for the death of their stepdad. Sources note their stepfather, Floyd Sullivan Jr. raised them since middle school. Neither rapstar has released any commentary on their stepbrother’s murder charge. Fortunately, Swae Lee shared a few words about his stepdad. “I pray this world lets me keep some compassion. I’ve been tested my whole life,” he wrote on Twitter. Additionally, he took to Instagram and wrote in the captions, “Life has a crazy way of making sure your still on your toes. OG Gone live forever.” Hopefully, the rapper carries the memory of his stepfather with him.
