Professional Athletes Boycott Following Jabob Blake Shooting

Professional Athletes from the NBA, MLB, MLS, and WNBA took part in a boycott after the shooting of Jacob Blake.

Following the shooting of Jacob Blake, Professional Athletes took a significant stand as a show of solidarity.

Wednesday, August 26th, 2020, will forever go down in history as the day millennial athletes finally stood up for the little people. When the Milwaukee Bucks didn’t come out for warm-ups, everything about sports and politics in this generation changed.

After the Bucks boycott, NBA teams followed suit, which then caused a ripple effect.

Not all the professional leagues took part, and the protest, namely the NHL and one player, called the league out for it.

“It’s kind of sad and disheartening for me and for members of the Hockey Diversity Alliance, and I’m sure for other guys across the league. But if no one stands up and does anything, then it’s the same thing. That silence. You’re just outside, looking in on actually being leaders and evoking real change when you have such an opportunity to do so.”

That’s what Matt Dumba told a reporter when he was asked about the NHL lackluster response to the social movement.

While not everyone is joining the party, much credit should be given to the leagues and athletes who took action. Despite the fact, the Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse was able to do what he did before all of this activity. The need for people with platforms to speak out is imminent.
