Michael B. Jordan says focus on Boseman’s Legacy despite Oscars’ awkward fail moment to honor the late actor.

The Oscars delivered another awkward moment. It was just as cringe-worthy as the 2016 La La Land vs. Moonlight fiasco. The Oscars was extraordinary long and dragged out all night. it’s one move to honor Boseman’s Legacy, left many in attendance and watching at home feeling a little let down when it instead ended on a very anticlimactic note. They saught to honor Chadwick Boseman’s Legacy but that didn’t happened. So what happened exactly, read on.

The Oscars’ Failed Moment; Boseman’s Legacy

Anthony Hopkins, 83, was declared winner for the category of Best Actor, for his movie ‘The Father.’ The actor wasn’t available on the day of the Oscars and no speech was given. For all appearances, it seemed they purposedly left Best Actor category towards the end to create a moment in which to honor Boseman and highlight his legacy impact. Since, Best Picture is traditionally the final award handed out at the Oscars. Instead, it did not happen. The Oscars, instead decided to end abruptly and roll the credits, leaving everyone at a loss.

Hopkins submitted a virtual speech via his instagram account for his oscars win. The Silence of the Lambs actor instead praised Boseman. This is what he said, “At 83 years of age, I did not expect to get this award. I really didn’t.” The actor added, “I’m thankful to the Academy. Thank you. I want to honor Chadwick Boseman, who left us too soon. And once again, thank you all so much. I truly didn’t anticipate this, so I feel grateful and honored. Thank you.”

Best Actor from his work in Netflix’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” and he was strongly favored to win. Boseman has already won a Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and Screen Actors Guild award for the role. When he didn’t win, fans were saddened. Black fans spoke of the Oscars history of exclusion of Black actors and other roles that are always snubbed for awards despite of deserving them for quality performances.

What we should focus on, instead?

Michael B. Jordan did not want fans to focus on what we didn’t get but instead of the quality of life that Chadwick Boseman led. Focus on Boseman’s legacy. “No victory can diminish the impact he had on lives worldwide,” says Michael B. Jordan, co-star of ‘Black Panther.’ “We must acknowledge the things we can control, the gifts and blessings he left us. His remarkable body of work and the inspiration he embodied are the greatest treasures we could ever hope for.”

Boseman went out of his way, to choose roles that created representation for black people. For people who were not used to seeing many movies in which black icons highlighted, he made it happen. The actor gave us Jackie Robinson, Black Panther, Thurgood Marshall, and James Brown. Their stories were told through his performances and that is an amazing thing. For that, Boseman’s legacy lives on. Chadwick Boseman will forever been known for the amazing choices he made to create something truly special before he left.
