Liyah, an R&B singer with a story to tell and a voice to inspire, is making her way out of Canada. Her most recent release comes as her debut single titled, “Always There”. The new trending single is accompanied by a visual depicting a lover who makes her feel unimportant.
“It’s a song about knowing your value and wanting to be appreciated in your relationship. It’s a feel-good track that will boost your confidence and uplift you.”
With a name inspired by the late great Aaliyah, it’s only natural that the Toronto native’s debut will catch the listener’s attention right away. Her music is crafted with a forceful delivery that packs a punch with each verse.
The video is just as genuine as the song. The scenes alternate between the rising star hanging out in a car with friends and partying with backup dancers in the studio. Overall, Liyah’s visual has a 90s vibe to it. Providing a modern feel to them that could turn anyone into a fan.
Her style, lyrics and musical prowess comes as no surprise. She effortlessly forces a casual fan to fall head over heels for her.
“My sound is sweet, refreshing, and a blend of both worlds. I create music that reflects the reality of youth and young adults, something this generation can truly connect with. At the same time, I draw inspiration from older genres like rhythm and blues, soul/Neo soul, and funk to create my own unique music,” Liyah described.
Her upbringing is a reflection of her versatility. At the young age of 14, Liyah’s parents exposed her to the sounds of Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, Musiq Soulchild, Alicia Keys, and India Arie. When her passion for music was established she joined the church choir. After graduating high school, the Toronto singer decided to turn her passion into a career. However, unlike many, her main goal from music isn’t to blow up or become uber-popular.
“My music career goals for the future is to have the world listening to my music, to have people that connect with my lyrics and emotions and to be able to create music with great people that I’ve watched over the years. I want to inspire youth and let them know that anything is possible if you just believe in yourself.” the young singer explained.
With a vibe so contagious and a promising career in music, Liyah is just getting started! Stay tuned here for more about the rapidly rising Canadians songstress. For now, take a look at Liyah’s visual for her new single titled, “Always There” below.
