HipCityVeg: A New Spin On Healthy Food

Leaving behind the politics, and hippie references, veganism is now seen as a full-on desired lifestyle. Big companies such as Tyson Foods even bought a portion of the plant-based protein producer Beyond Meat. Moreover, one restaurant turning chain-restaurant HipCityVeg brings a new spin on vegan and vegetarian food options.

“As the diets and choices of our customers are shifting to plant-based and other healthier options, we are eager to partner with HipCityVeg,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Brown’s Super Stores, who operates The Fresh Grocer.

    The Vegan Market

As of right now, the vegan demand is an uproar rising, due to the findings of benefits to human health. According to the Research and Market report, this industry will reach a value of $31.4 billion by 2026. According to Statista, the average number of people that follow a meat-free diet is 14%.

    What’s The Purpose of Veganism?

Vegetarians have reasons to be in the community, some of those reasons could be because of health issues or even religious beliefs. But there’s a certain group of people who become vegetarian because of the welfare of the animals held in captivity and the use of hormones in livestock. Furthermore, it helps reduce the carbon foot that meat usually creates.

Now for HipCityVeg, their origins come from the founder’s father, Nicole Marquis. Whereas her father developed high blood pressure and Type II diabetes. At one point in her life, she told him to change his diet to a plant-based one but he refused.

He firmly stated, “I avoid sugary foods and strive to maintain a healthy diet. I have diabetes due to my genetic predisposition.” My father had it and that’s why I do”.

Besides addressing health concerns, there’s also a threat when it comes to the purpose of veganism: climate. According to the BBC, livestock rearing contributes to global warming through the methane gas that animals produce, but also via deforestation to expand pastures, for example. It is worldly known that climate change poses a threat to our future and how we consume.

HipCityVeg is changing the game in the fast-food industry. It has a mission of creating plant-based food that is convenient, affordable, and accessible to all.

“We know we can have a greater impact on our health, the health of the planet, and on other living things by changing how people eat than by anything else we as individuals can do.”

Opening its doors on April 6 in Philadelphia, it became a huge success from day one. The owners couldn’t believe their eyes when Philly known as the cheese steak capital craved plant-based food. HipCityVeg considers other chains like Sweetgreen, Shake Shack, and even Chick-fil-A as their competitors. But this vegetarian alternative believes its success comes from its strong belief in making a delicious plant-based substitute.
