A shocking domestic dispute turned Miami rapper Gunplay’s life upside down, and now he’s pointing the finger at his estranged wife’s mental health as the root cause. In August 2023, Gunplay, whose real name is Richard Morales Jr., was accused of pointing an AK-47 at his wife, Vonshae Taylor-Morales, while she held their 6-month-old daughter. The incident, which led to his arrest and nearly two years of house arrest, has resurfaced as Gunplay shares his side of the story, blaming his wife’s alleged Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) for the chaos.
The altercation reportedly began over a simple disagreement about the volume of Gunplay’s video game, “Call of Duty,” which was waking their baby. According to the police report, the situation escalated quickly. Vonshae claimed Gunplay threw glass cups and liquor bottles, grabbed an AK-47, and threatened,
“I will blow your shit back,”
while she held their daughter. She also alleged he grabbed the baby’s neck and head. Vonshae escaped with their child, secured a restraining order, and later expressed plans to file for divorce.
Gunplay, however, paints a different picture. In a recent interview, he denied the allegations and insisted his wife’s mental state triggered the incident.
“She just flipped the switch like out of nowhere,”
He said.
“Hindsight is 20/20 when I just look at overall, I did my research. The things that she fell under were NPD, that’s Narcissistic Personality Disorder. It’s a real disorder that people don’t go get diagnosed for because they don’t feel that nothing’s wrong. They live in their own bubble, their own reality. They have their own delusions, and that’s a protective shell around them because whatever happened when they was younger, they put a protective shell around them so they can’t feel that pain no more of whatever abuse happened or like a trauma response type stuff.”
Gunplay faced serious legal fallout. Arrested the following day, he was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and child abuse. He was released on a $5,000 bond and endured house arrest until May 2025. He lost custody of his daughter, now limited to supervised virtual visits, and violated the restraining order at least eight times, leading to another arrest in October 2023. Despite the consequences, Gunplay remains defiant, framing the ordeal as a deeper battle.
“I always knew I was gonna be vindicated because I didn’t do anything,”
He said.
“This was gonna be a spiritual journey that I was gonna have to go through by myself. It wasn’t gonna be no money or nothing that was really gonna get me through this. This was a spiritual warfare.”
He also alleged judicial bias, claiming,
“Once the judge was, I see that she was a hundred percent blatantly biased, that’s when I said, ‘Yeah, this is way bigger than me.’ So I just sat back and I gave it to a higher court.”
Gunplay recounted a bizarre twist involving a motion for witness intimidation filed by Vonshae.
“I told her, ‘Listen, God is watching you. You’re lying. God is gonna handle you, you’re lying,’”
He explained.
“She said I was talking about Trapped God Lido because I call him God, and that’s my hitman. If you look on his Instagram, his name is Trapped God in the middle. It says God.”
Gunplay leaned on his faith and family for support.
“My mother was there on every hearing with a Bible, and we was just prayed up,”
He said.
“I just sat back and ate my popcorn and watched the good and evil battle it out in room 6-3 in the Lance’s courtroom.”
Vonshae’s account, as detailed in the police report, starkly contrasts Gunplay’s claims. She described a terrifying encounter marked by violence and threats, leading to her securing full custody and legal protections. Given the restraining order and custody rulings, the courts appear to have sided with her.
As of June 5, 2025, Gunplay is free from house arrest but remains subject to the restrictions of the restraining order.
