    Chance The Rapper Speaks Out, Reports That He Suffers From PTSD

    In nearly every single music video, Chance The Rapper always has a smile on his face. Let’s face it, the guy has an infectious personality that shines right through the camera. Even so, he carries a lot of emotional baggage that not many people know about. During an interview with actress Taraji P. Henson, Chance The Rapper revealed his mental health struggles. Unfortunately, the rapper paid witness to many traumatic events as a child. Now he suffers from PTSD.

    Recently, the Acid Rap emcee sat down with actress Taraji P. Henson on her Facebook Watch series Peace Of Mind With Taraji. Moreover, the actress brings famous personalities and stars onto her show to discuss their mental health struggles brought on by traumatizing events.

    Chance The Rapper shared that no one ever talked about mental health in his family growing up. He also discussed the stigmas surrounding Black masculinity and how he plans to end that narrative for good.

    “In many cases, we may have dismissed individuals as simply being ‘crazy’ without realizing that they could be dealing with an ongoing mental health condition,” he shared with Henson during their conversation. The rapper clearly observed numerous instances of people struggling with mental illnesses, including PTSD.

    During Chance The Rapper’s interview with Henson, he also revealed his own mental health struggles. The 28-year-old shared that due to some traumatic events in his life, he now suffers from PTSD. Moreover, the rap star refers to his mental struggles as having “a lot of dark days.”

    Unfortunately, as a child he witnessed his friends being murdered right in front of him. Chance The Rapper explained, “Obviously, I deal with PTSD, I saw my friend killed in front of me when I was 19 and I’ve seen people I didn’t know killed off, too.”

    In further detail, the rapper shared that after losing so many people, he initially thought he’d become numb to the pain. However, he didn’t realize until later that those troublesome memories followed him into adulthood. Thus, leading him to suffer mentally and emotionally. Fortunately, Chance The Rapper’s shared experienced with mental health can help many of fans facing the same dilemma.
