Boosie’s Arrest: Was He Set Up by the Hip-Hop Police?

Boosie was Arrested! Did the hip-hop police set him up?

The venom that suffuses much of contemporary rap music is not just the product of the genre’s youth culture. It has its roots in an angry new black ideology. It equates black strength with a militantly adversarial stance toward American society. That ethos took hold in the 1960s, with the emergence of a movement embodied by Malcolm X’s raised fist, and it found expression in the form of rap and hip-hop.

That movement encouraged street violence and equated it with blackness. The resulting rap music spawned a lucrative industry. It’s often associated with drugs and criminal activity. The slandering of rappers by the police has also been a significant feature.

The late NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton once went on WCBS radio to slander “rap artists.” He called rappers thugs who celebrate the violence they experience. Bratton claims that violence sometimes manifests itself during their performances.

Bratton’s slandering of rap helped lead to the creation of the hip-hop police. An elite squad of detectives who track people in the rap industry. In 1998 Detective Derrick Alston compiled a dossier called “The Binder.” It included information on many prominent rappers, including their mug shots, arrest records, and social security numbers.

His chief ordered Derrick to compile the Binder, but he balked at the idea because it seemed like racial profiling.

Earlier this week, Boosie Badazz was arrested in San Diego, just moments after his gun charges were dismissed in court, TMZ reports. According to the outlet, federal agents grabbed him when he exited the courthouse.

TMZ claims that Feds were eyeing the rapper after a video of him handling a handgun on his Instagram live feed made waves. It’s unclear why the feds decided to go after him, but he’ll have difficulty beating his current case.

In the IG video, Boosie reportedly told his security guards to put the weapon in a bag. He also made a tweet to his children, saying that he loves them and never wants to see them in trouble again.

This is far from the first time Boosie has encountered legal trouble. He has a history of domestic abuse and has been jailed multiple times. He was also recently in a car crash that killed another rapper. In addition to that, he’s been accused of lying about his age for welfare benefits.

He’s been a vocal critic of the legal troubles of other rappers. Especially the Fugees rapper Pras who Boosie has suggested is a rat. He also disparaged Gunna, who took a plea deal in his highly publicized gun case.
