Beyoncé is once again putting her resources behind communities in crisis. On Monday (Aug. 31), the BeyGOOD Foundation announced a $200,000 donation to help residents of Indiana recover from the severe storms and historic flooding that battered the state earlier this month.
The funds are being directed to City Life Center and Angel by Nature, two organizations working on the ground in the hardest-hit areas. In its official statement, BeyGOOD said the contribution will “immediately support critical relief and recovery efforts in the neediest areas, including the city of Gary, providing food, household supplies, and other essential resources to individuals and families impacted by the flooding.” The foundation also pointed fans and supporters toward beygood.org for anyone looking to help further.
The extreme weather began around Aug. 11 with a powerful derecho that brought destructive winds, tornadoes, hail and relentless rain. Some parts of Indiana saw more than a foot of rainfall over several days, pushing rivers like the White River to record levels. The storms claimed at least seven lives, left more than 1,000 people displaced, damaged or destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings, and knocked out power for over a million customers at the peak. In places like Gary and Lake County, many residents went more than a week — and in some cases nearly two — without electricity.
The Indiana gift arrives just days after Beyoncé committed a personal $1 million to earthquake relief in Colombia following the 7.4-magnitude quake that struck the Chocó region on Aug. 10. That earlier donation was earmarked for food and housing supplies through groups including Food For The Poor and World Central Kitchen. Together, the two contributions bring her reported charitable giving for the month of August to $1.2 million.
Founded by Beyoncé in 2013, BeyGOOD has long focused on disaster response and community support, from hurricane recovery to wildfire relief and international humanitarian efforts. The latest move continues that pattern of stepping up when communities need immediate help.
As Indiana works through cleanup and longer-term recovery, the BeyGOOD funds are aimed at covering urgent day-to-day needs for those still dealing with the aftermath.
