A Texas man has gone viral after mailing $50 in cash to a Los Angeles restaurant because he couldn’t shake the feeling that he may have forgotten to tip his waitress during a visit months earlier.
Roberto José Andrade of El Paso visited Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant on May 1 while traveling for work. After returning home, he realized he was only “about 75% sure” he had left a gratuity, prompting him to send the money directly to the restaurant.
In a handwritten letter to owner Norm Langer, Andrade explained that his first job was as a busboy and waiter, and that his sister had also worked in the service industry for years. He said those experiences taught him how important tips are, which is why he was sending the $50 “just in case” he had forgotten.
Langer’s staff took the challenge seriously.
Using Andrade’s description of the booth, the timing of the visit, and the waitress’s appearance, the restaurant successfully identified the anonymous server and delivered the full $50 directly to her.
According to the deli, she was “floored.”
The restaurant later shared photos of the letter and the cash on social media, calling the gesture one that “made our whole week” before thanking Andrade publicly for going out of his way to do the right thing when nobody would have known otherwise.
The story quickly spread across social media and was picked up by national outlets, with readers praising the remarkable honesty behind such an ordinary moment.
