Best Foundation Brands Dedicated to All Shades of Melanin

Struggling to find the proper foundation that complements your skin tone is the story of my life. I am spilling the tea on some of my favorite skin-inclusive makeup foundation brands.

Buying makeup is an investment, so it hurts when you cannot find a product that is indeed worth it. Foundation is crucial in the makeup game, seeing as the ‘foundation’ or base for your makeup.

    According to Ipsos:

“Nearly all foundation consumers (99%) agree that when shopping for foundation, finding the right color to match your skin tone is important – and eight in ten (81%) believe that they have already found the right foundation color match for their skin. However, one in ten (10%) are still on the lookout for their perfect color match, and another 10% of women are not sure”.

Foundation is one of the more challenging makeup products to be satisfied with. One of the first things I analyze about a brand is its foundation wheel and how many colors they produce. If you pay close attention, you will recognize that a brand may cater to a specific shade of colors. But have no fair my fave foundation brands list is here.

    MAC Cosmetics

Mac Cosmetics is a high-end makeup brand known for catering to professional makeup artists. I started my makeup journey with this brand, so it’s one I a most comfortable with. If you want some bomb medium to total coverage products, make a trip to this well-known brand. Also, please don’t feel overwhelmed because they have different types of foundations. It’s all based on your customer needs.

    Bobbi Brown

This brand is the OG of dabbling in the shades of melanin. I grew up watching the women around me purchase this product as it was the only one catering to them at the time. To this day, Bobbi Brown is a hot competitor in the foundation game. I love their concealer and foundation sticks best.

    Fenty Beauty

Queen Riri herself owns this brand. The brand is dedicated to curating inclusive makeup for all skin types and shades. If you have oily skin try the Matte Longwear foundation. But if you are like me and have normal skin or are even dry, the Hydrating Longwear foundation is for you. Fenty also has an excellent contour stick, which I love. If you are not sure of your shade, schedule a video call with one of Fenty’s beauty specialists.

    Rare Beauty

Selena Gomez founded Rare Beauty which caters to different tones and shades. It’s also vegan and cruelty-free. I haven’t tried any of her traditional foundation products, but it’s on my list of to-dos. I will personally recommend her Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer. This skin tint is perfect for those no-makeup days and gives a natural dewy glow.

     Bare Minerals

Bare Mineral is an underrated brand that is all about clean beauty. They have one of the best mineral or powder-based makeup in the market. If you’re on the hunt for a powder-based foundation, try the Barepro Arepro 16hr Skin-Perfecting Powder. My favorite form of Bare Minerals is the loose mineral foundation; it has SPF!

    NARS

NARS is one of those high-end makeup brands you pass by but never entertain. Well, this is your sign to shop for NARS’s products. I just got on the NARS foundation wagon, and I love it. I recently purchased the Sheer Glow Foundation, and trust me; it’s worth it. They also have a tint that goes smoothly if you are looking for something with little to no coverage.

    Foundation Tips

Skincare is crucial. If you are looking for your foundation to go on smoothly, please remember to take care of your skin.

Go to the store with no makeup on. This will allow you to get an honest look and feel of the makeup you are trying on.

Get someone to color match you.

Do not try the foundation on your hand but your jawline. Your hand tends to be lighter than your face; therefore, trying it on your jawline will save you the heartache of buying the wrong color.

Get a foundation for every season. You only need two different shades of foundation, one for the summer season and the other for winter.

Remember what you bought. I personally always forget the color number and type of foundation, I believe. If you don’t want to go through the hassle of being color matched, I suggest storing your info somewhere safe.

I hope this helps! Let me know your favorite foundation brands and if you have tried any of the ones I listed above.
