Arising singer and songwriter Anaïsa recently released a stunning new single entitled “Kalimba.” Which brought a fresh breath of musicality to her energetic pop sound and comforted all her listeners worldwide.
Anaïsa had a conversation with us, addressing our three specific questions. Take a look below.
HYPEFRESH: First, let’s get to know each other. We’d like to know your name, age, and where you’re from. Feel free to share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with.
Anaïsa: I’m Anaïsa, an artist from Germany, and I labeled my genre “female power pop” because I write my songs from an empowering perspective. I need to enable anybody who cares to listen to be free, own who they are, and do what is best for them.
I hope that anybody who feels societal pressure. Like having a specific education, a job, getting married and having kids, or looking a certain way, like being skinny, or whatever the pressure is, will have the energy to withstand that pressure.
HYPEFRESH: Can you tell us about your new single, “Kalimba”?
Anaïsa: My song “Kalimba” is about feeling super confident in your body. That was a big journey for me precisely because, as a mid-sized woman in this industry, I was often told that I didn’t belong on stage for being too “big.”
People approached me after a show and said my voice was unique, but it was better if one turned away from me because I wasn’t attractive. As a result, I almost didn’t release “Kalimba” because I thought it was too out there, too sexy, for somebody with my looks.
Thankfully, I did it anyways, and I urge everybody to do the internal work to ultimately really cherish themselves and their bodies because, as Oprah says, “What others think of you is none of your business!”
HYPEFRESH: What do you like most about being a music artist?
Anaïsa: What I love most about being an artist is my artistic freedom with my music. Nobody can tell me what to do, what to be, or how to sound but myself. I can express my thoughts; getting your truth out there is therapeutic and cathartic, especially when it resonates with people. It’s a tremendous gift that I have been given, and I am forever grateful for that.
