A stunning confession on Discord has exposed critical details in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, with the platform initially denying any evidence of incriminating messages— a claim now proven false. Just two hours before his arrest on September 11, 2025, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, accused of Kirk’s murder, reportedly admitted his guilt in a Discord group chat, writing,
“Hey guys, I have bad news for you all. It was me at UVU yesterday. im sorry for all of this. im surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments. thanks for all the good times and laughs.”
This message, sent to about 20 friends and gaming acquaintances, has become central to the investigation into Kirk’s killing at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025.
Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck during an outdoor campus event on his “American Comeback” tour, in what authorities call a targeted “political assassination.” Robinson, a third-year electrical apprenticeship student from Washington, Utah, was arrested 33 hours later in St. George after his father, recognizing him in FBI photos, convinced him to surrender via a sheriff friend. He faces charges of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice, with prosecutors weighing the death penalty.
Early in the investigation, Discord claimed no messages linked to the crime were shared on its platform, a statement now contradicted by evidence from Robinson’s account. Beyond the confession, investigators found messages where Robinson joked about a “doppelganger” committing the crime to “get me in trouble” after suspect photos emerged. He also instructed someone, possibly his roommate, to retrieve a rifle hidden in a towel at a “drop point” near the scene. Bullet casings engraved with “oh bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao,” referencing an anti-fascist song, and DNA on the towel further tie Robinson to the weapon.
Robinson, from a tight-knit Mormon family with no prior criminal record, had recently become outspoken about politics, criticizing Kirk for spreading “hate,” especially on transgender issues. He was in a relationship with a transgender individual, Lance Twiggs, who is cooperating with authorities. While some unverified claims link Robinson to left-wing groups, these remain unconfirmed. The FBI is probing the Discord group’s 20 members, some of whom joked about the crime without reporting it, for potential complicity. The Charlie Kirk assassination has ignited national debate.
Former President Donald Trump demanded Robinson’s execution, and Kirk’s widow pledged to continue his work. A memorial for Kirk is planned for September 21, 2025, in Arizona. Federal investigators are exploring additional charges, focusing on Robinson’s online activity, as the investigation deepens.
