    “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical” – Lights Out For Tina

    The Broadway hit musical “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical” is coming to a close on Broadway. The twelve time Tony Award nominated musical opened in the Fall of 2019. After the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, the Tina Turner musical survived a re-opening. As Summer comes to an end, so too will this epic tale of one music’s legends. Tina will play its last performance at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on August 14, 2022. At the time of its closing, Tina will have played approximately 27 previews and 482 regular performances, per Playbill.com.

    Tina’s Story

    Tina Turner expressed her gratitude for her life story being transformed into a musical on Broadway, stating, “Seeing my story come alive on stage, crafted by such talented artists, has been an amazing conclusion to my remarkable career.” (Source: Deadline)

    Tina is a musical that chronicles the journey of Tina Turner, starting from her humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her rise as the global queen of rock ‘n’ roll. Born as Anna Mae Bullock in 1939, she achieved fame in the 1960s alongside her husband Ike. Despite enduring domestic abuse, she eventually separated from him in 1976 and divorced two years later. Tina Turner had an incredible resurgence in the 1980s. As the rock music queen, she sold 180 million records worldwide and achieved 11 Grammy Awards. (Source: Broadway.com)

    Tina Turner’s story is one of resilience, strength, and timeless tunes. Tina on Broadway is a love letter to the incredible artist that is Ms. Turner. On top of sharing her inspirational story, Tina feels like a rock concert meets Broadway. With pyrotechnics, giant projection screens in the mezzanine, and performances by Tina clones. Nkek Obi-Melekwe is currently portraying Tina, while Adrienne Warren received the Tony Award for Best Actress for her original Broadway role in Tina.When a beloved Broadway show closes, it is always a sad occasion. It is especially sad that Broadway is saying goodbye to a gem of a production in Tina’s closing.
