Tekashi 6ix9ine Files $1M Lawsuit Against LA Fitness After Latin Kings Attack in South Florida Sauna

Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose given name is Daniel Hernandez, was severely beaten in an LA Fitness gym sauna in Lake Worth, Fla., on March 21, 2023. In the attack, which sent him to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, were three men police say had been affiliated with the Latin Kings.

Attackers took several valuables from Hernandez, according to sources: $3,000 Balenciaga shoes, his iPhone and a $1,200 key fob to his Lamborghini. A video surfaced, making the incident even more sensationalized because it showed Hernandez being struck multiple times while trying to protect his face.

Authorities identified the attackers as Rafael Medina Jr., 43, his son, Octavious Medina, 23, and Anthony Maldonado, 25. Rafael Medina Jr. was described as a high-ranking member of the Latin Kings gang and the “Inca” or president of the Palm Beach County chapter and was allegedly the mastermind behind the assault.

An investigation ensued, and all three men were arrested, with charges pending on the attack and robbery. Many people highly condemned it, and since the assailants belonged to the gang, the matter was at a higher scale of seriousness.

Since the attack, Hernandez filed a lawsuit against LA Fitness for negligence, contending that the gym was not taking adequate measures in ensuring safety. The rapper is asserting through his suit that workers were neither trained for the security protocol at the facility, nor did they react or call law enforcement timely, as the incident unfolded.

As a result of the incident, Hernandez sustained injuries to the jaw, ribs, and back. He contends he has had to endure extreme pain and suffering, run up medical bills and suffer a loss of income. More importantly, the quality of his life is no longer as it once was. Damages of $1 million are being sought against the gym for breach of its duty to provide a safe environment.

On January 18, 2025, Tekashi 6ix9ine has not filed any lawsuit against LA Fitness. While the rapper had already accused the chain of negligence, no court action has been done. There is documented evidence of the assault in March of 2023 and the consequent arrests, but the enforcement of legal action to LA Fitness has not been executed.
