A Tesla key card was discovered near the Hollywood Hills home of musician D4vd, prompting concerns about evidence contamination in the ongoing investigation into the death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas.
A Reddit user who said they live near the property reported finding the card Sept. 26 in a gutter outside the home. The person posted photos of the card and the residence, saying they had touched the card before realizing it could be evidence.
The Redditor, who identified as a neighbor, admitted to visiting the site “just to check out the area” when they spotted the Tesla key card “right in the gutter behind some leaves.” The individual shared images of the card’s placement and D4vd’s residence, drawing immediate backlash from other users.
“You need to turn that into law enforcement ASAP,” one commenter urged, while another warned that handling the card without gloves could compromise critical fingerprint evidence.
The Redditor later acknowledged touching the card with bare hands before realizing its potential evidentiary value, fueling further criticism.
According to the user, they contacted the LAPD non-emergency line and later surrendered the key card to authorities. In a follow-up post, they insisted their fingerprints “won’t destruct the evidence” and said they were “reassured” by law enforcement after reporting all details surrounding the find.
The LAPD has not issued an official statement confirming the recovery of the card or commenting on its potential role in the investigation.
The incident adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation into the death of Celeste Rivas. Rivas, missing from Lake Elsinore since April 2024, was discovered inside D4vd’s abandoned Tesla earlier this month. Her decomposed remains were found on September 8 after neighbors reported a foul odor emanating from the vehicle.
Authorities subsequently searched D4vd’s Hollywood Hills property, seizing digital devices and other materials. Investigators have been scrutinizing the nature of his relationship with Rivas, pointing to matching “Shhh…” tattoos on their index fingers as evidence of a connection.
Tesla enthusiasts note that while key cards are standard with Tesla vehicles, most drivers rely on the brand’s smartphone app for access. Key cards are typically reserved for lending the car to others or for privacy reasons, avoiding digital tracking.
The key card’s discovery outside D4vd’s residence raises questions about who may have last accessed the vehicle and whether the card was lost, discarded, or deliberately placed. Critics also questioned why investigators had not found the item during previous searches of the property and its surroundings.
D4vd has been cooperating with investigators and canceled the remainder of his tour dates following the discovery of Rivas’s body. No suspects have been named, and no arrests have been made.
The LAPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Rivas’s death and whether the newly discovered Tesla key card holds answers—or only further questions.
