The Ocean Dream, recognized by the GIA as the largest natural Fancy Vivid Blue-Green diamond ever certified, is heading back to the auction block.
Christie’s will auction the extraordinary 5.50-carat triangular-cut diamond on May 13, 2026, as part of its Magnificent Jewels sale at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva. The stone carries a presale estimate of CHF 7–10 million (approximately $8.5–12.5 million USD).
Polished from an 11.70-carat rough discovered in Central Africa in the 1990s, the Ocean Dream stands out for its intense natural blue-green hue, which GIA has confirmed originates from natural radiation rather than artificial treatment. The Type Ia diamond boasts SI1 clarity and was masterfully cut by Mazhar Saylam in a modified triangular brilliant shape optimized to showcase its vivid color.
The gem first captured global attention in 2003 when it was featured in the Smithsonian Institution’s Splendor of Diamonds exhibition in Washington, D.C., where it was highlighted among the world’s rarest diamonds. It last appeared at auction in May 2014 at Christie’s Geneva, where it sold for CHF 7.7 million (roughly $8.6–8.8 million at the time) before entering a private collection.
Now returning after 12 years, the Ocean Dream is set in a striking new ring mount featuring sculpted rock crystal, pavé diamonds, and pink diamonds. Its combination of size, exceptional saturation, natural color origin, and provenance makes it one of the most significant colored diamonds to come to market in recent years.

Blue-green diamonds of this vivid intensity and scale are exceptionally scarce in nature, with no recorded peers in GIA’s database at this carat weight. Top-tier colored diamonds with strong exhibition history have consistently performed well at auction, drawing competitive bidding from serious collectors.
Previews of the lot were held in Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Geneva ahead of the sale. The auction is expected to draw significant attention as a key indicator of the current strength of the high-end colored diamond market.
