Movie Theater Collapses Mid-Screening of Captain America in Washington!

A dramatic scene unfolded at Liberty Cinema in Wenatchee, Washington, on February 27, 2025, when the theater’s ceiling collapsed during a screening of “Captain America: Brave New World.” The incident, which occurred midway through the film around 8 p.m., sent debris tumbling onto the seats below. Still, miraculously, no injuries were reported among the sparse audience of two moviegoers. The theater was promptly evacuated, and authorities have since launched an investigation to uncover the cause of the collapse.

Witnesses described a surreal moment as the auditorium’s ceiling gave way.

“It started with some weird creaking noises—we thought it was part of the movie at first,”

One attendee told reporters.

“Then, the whole thing just came down during a quiet scene. It was terrifying, but we got out fast.”

The Wenatchee Valley Fire Department arrived swiftly on the scene, confirming that both individuals escaped unharmed, with one narrowly dodging falling debris.

Liberty Cinema, a historic venue located at 11 S. Mission St., has been a beloved local landmark since its opening in 1919. Though it underwent renovations in the 1970s, its age may have contributed to the structural failure. Battalion Chief Cam Phillips of the

Wenatchee Valley Fire Department noted,

“The drop ceiling failed catastrophically all at once. We’re looking into whether age or other factors played a role.”

The theater’s owner, Sun Basin Theatres, expressed relief at the lack of casualties.

“We’re deeply grateful everyone is safe and are working closely with officials to understand what happened,”

said spokesperson Bryan Cook.

The collapse has left Liberty Cinema’s future uncertain. The theater remains closed indefinitely pending a full safety assessment. Local residents accustomed to catching the latest blockbusters at the venue are now left wondering about the safety of other aging theaters nationwide. Authorities expect to release preliminary findings from their investigation in the coming days.
