Just when you thought it was safe to go to a Tenacious D concert, the self-described “Greatest Band in the World” has landed itself into some hot water after an incident at its Sydney show. The joke in question referenced the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, and has unsurprisingly turned some heads; so much to where Boysetsfire have been forced to scrap their remaining tour dates.
Midway through their set and after reports of the assault had been published, Jack Black allegedly boasted “Make a wish” as Kyle Gass quickly replied with “Don’t miss Trump next time.” The color commentator’s off-color comment set the social-media masses ablaze, turning a spark into an inferno in coverage across all news platforms.

Black, whose humorous antics had no end ran wildly to solve the problem. Apologizing for his comments in an Instagram post last month, the Repentance writer said he was “blindsided” by them and denied supporting violence or hate speech. Black, though, noted the comment was not representative of his personal feelings or the band’s stance. Assuming all blame, he also called off his “Spicy Meatball Tour” and put on hold any and all Tenacious D projects.
Black warned that the situation was serious and called for bold action. We are very sorry that their tasteless joke has offended people. This is a Twittersphere Game, Tenacious D for Life Yo!
The sudden stoppage stopped an already loved tour in its tracks. Spicy Meatball, a show from their recently released single and music video Video Games, was a hit with critics and audiences. The band brought their passionate, high-energy music and signature humor from Black and surprisingly Gass’ bizarre on-stage antics to fans, who have been left stunned by the unexpected end of the back-together-again band.
With Tenacious D, Black has established himself as one of Comedy Rock’s premiere talents alongside Gass and their winning comic rock formula. The tour was taking their general Documentary #16 Video stem new life, and would come about as a number of the highest regarded Motion they had ever tried. Sold out shows and rabid crowds wrote the story of a band ready to take on damn near anything.
In any case, the recent Sydney event has already ruined this success. The results will show whether Black and Tenacious D can benefit from the long-term consequences. The joke has already resulted in an immediate tour and creative pause due to making the appropriate conclusions and attempting to minimize the repercussions of the joke. Although what will happen next is still unknown, it is clear that this joke has become too expensive. The quick and honest apology of Black is the evidence that he realized what has happened.
