Former Diddy-Dirty Money member Kalenna Harper recently commented on the recent lawsuit filed by her ex-bandmate, Dawn Richard, against Sean “Diddy” Combs. In a suit filed against him for sexual abuse, physical violence, and other misconduct, Richard included that she and Harper have witnessed Diddy abusing his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
In the lawsuit, Dawn Richard claims Diddy was forcing her into years of abuse, including physical and sexual. In the same suit, she says Diddy physically abused his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura in one incident that she and Harper were put through. These are deeply concerning allegations after a string of lawsuits and allegations over recent years that have targeted Diddy for everything from sexual misconduct to misappropriation of funds behind the scenes of the music mogul’s business empire.
Diddy has denied these allegations categorically. He expressed his disappointment through his lawyer, Erica Wolff, to the claims by Richard and countered that the timing of the lawsuit, since it had come with Richard’s album release, may demonstrate other motives. Wolff also told People that Richard kept working with Diddy long after her alleged incidents transpired, which is in contradiction with her claims.
Kalenna Harper, who also worked in Diddy-Dirty Money with her, has now spoken out on the lawsuit, and it’s a far cry from what her old bandmate’s claims have been. Harper has issued a public statement to clear her name from the claims brought on by Richard. She acknowledges the lawsuit but makes sure to mention how her experience with Diddy went far differently than what Richard mentioned.
Harper told The Daily Beast in a phone call Sunday evening that she respected Dawn Richard’s “right to speak her truth,” but wanted to make clear much of what was detailed in the lawsuit did not comport with her experiences working with Diddy. She never witnessed any abusive behavior or misconduct by Combs, according to Harper. “I was present in some of the professional settings mentioned in the lawsuit, but the things being said just don’t align with my own truth,” she said.
She came to Diddy’s defense, adding that she did not witness anything illegal or abusive while the two worked together. While Richard may be sharing her personal experiences, it is important, Harper noted, not to generalize those claims onto everyone involved. Harper made it clear that just because this is what Richard is accusing Diddy of, one shouldn’t believe that that behavior extends to everyone who has been in close proximity with him.
