COVID-19 (Coronavirus) | Freeman Health System

The United States has been battling the Covid-19 virus for a few months now. Officials have tried to stop the spread, by putting the nation on a home-order lock down, making wearing masks a requirement in most states, and establishing social distancing guidelines. However, every day the cases throughout the U.S keep increasing, with more deaths occurring every single day. There is no telling when there will be a cure or when it will stop, but it is important to stay up to date on the current state of the virus in the U.S.

Cases in the U.S since July 5th

As of July 5, 2020, there have been a total of 2,841,906 cases and a total of 129,576. Compared to the previous day, there have been 52,228 new cases and 271 deaths. This was the amount of death and cases just from one day.

Medical professionals also expect to see a bigger increase in cases in the next couple of weeks due to the 4th of July, many people were celebrating and not following CDC guidelines.

    Hand Sanitizer Warning

July 2nd, the FDA made a statement regarding hand sanitizer that contains ethanol.

    The FDA said the following:

“FDA is warning consumers and health care providers that the agency has seen a sharp increase in hand sanitizer products that are labeled to contain ethanol…Methanol is not an acceptable active ingredient for hand sanitizers and must not be used due to its toxic effects”.

“Consumers who have been exposed to hand sanitizer containing methanol and are experiencing symptoms should seek immediate treatment for a potential reversal of toxic effects of methanol poisoning. Substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system, or death. Although all persons using these products on their hands are at risk for methanol poisoning, young children who accidentally ingest these products and adolescents and adults who drink these products as an alcohol (ethanol) substitute, are most at risk”.
