“I’ma get in trouble for this,” the rapper playfully admitted.
A$AP Rocky revealed during an interview on The Jason Lee Show posted Wednesday (Aug. 5) that Rihanna is back in the studio and actively recording.
The conversation turned to long-running fan speculation that Rocky has been the reason Rihanna has not released a new album this decade, due to their relationship and the three children they share. Rocky pushed back immediately.
“Nah,” he replied. “Yo, she in the studio right now. Yeah, I said it. Sorry, babe. Like, bro, she working. She cooking, no funny s–t. Damn, I’ma get in trouble for this.”
The comments mark the clearest public confirmation yet that new music from Rihanna is underway. Her last studio album, ANTI, arrived in 2016.
When host Jason Lee suggested the couple make a joint double album, Rocky shut the idea down. “Nope. I would hate Rocky and Rihanna if they both did that. That’s trash,” he said. “Nobody want to hear us together, bro. I make subversive weird a–s indie rap.”
Rocky has three children with Rihanna: sons RZA and Riot Rose, and daughter Rocki. He acknowledged that family life and travel have kept both busy in recent years but emphasized that she is currently focused on recording.
The Navy was already hyped earlier this year when Rihanna posted footage from a recording session in a day-in-the-life montage. “I have to go to the studio after this,” she said in the February clip.
No further details about the project — including a title, release window or collaborators — have been shared. Billboard has reached out to representatives for Rihanna for comment.
