Cardi B Claims Offset Wants Millions, Taxes Paid, and Property Before Signing Divorce Papers

Cardi B says her divorce from Offset remains unresolved because, she alleges, the rapper is demanding millions of dollars, one of her homes, and that she cover his outstanding tax bills before he will sign the paperwork to end their marriage.

The Bronx-born star made the allegations during an X (formerly Twitter) Spaces session with fans on Monday, Sept. 22. “I gave seven good years of my life to that marriage,” Cardi told listeners, adding that the ongoing negotiations feel like she is being held “hostage” until she meets his financial conditions.

She elaborated further during the livestream: “Only reason why I’m still married is because somebody wants me to pay for they taxes.”

According to Cardi, Offset has made three specific demands before he will agree to finalize the split:

  • That she pay off his tax debt.
  • That she give him one of her properties.
  • That she provide him with “millions of dollars” in cash.

“The only way I can get out of my marriage is if I pay for somebody else’s taxes, even though I pay for my own, and give them one of my properties. I’m fighting for that. I’m gonna fight for that. This is not no love shit … I’m not gonna stop living my life because of a contract,” she reiterated.

The claims come as Offset faces mounting financial issues. Court filings reveal he owes nearly $2 million in combined federal and state tax debt. In March 2025, the Georgia Department of Revenue filed a $294,712 state lien for unpaid 2021 taxes. A year earlier, the IRS filed a federal lien for more than $1.5 million tied to the same year.

Cardi filed for divorce in July 2024 after nearly seven years of marriage. The couple secretly wed in September 2017 and share three children: Kulture, 7; Wave, 4; and Blossom, 1.

Offset responded in May 2025 with a counter-motion seeking spousal support, though court filings did not specify the amount. Neither party has finalized the divorce, and Offset has not publicly addressed Cardi’s latest allegations.

Cardi says she refuses to comply with his reported demands, telling fans: “I’m practically still married because somebody want to [hold] me hostage if I don’t give them millions of dollars to get out of it. However, I’m not gonna stop living my life.”

Despite the legal stalemate, Cardi is pressing ahead with her personal and professional life. Earlier this month, she confirmed she is expecting her fourth child — her first with NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs, whom she began dating in late 2024. The baby is due ahead of Cardi’s Little Miss Drama tour, scheduled to begin in February 2026.

“Y’all want me to remarry and stuff, to have another baby and stuff like that. I’m doing things … what makes me happy,” she said.

Professionally, Cardi released her long-awaited second studio album Am I The Drama? on Sept. 19, 2025. The project, already certified platinum, features the track “Man Of Your Word” — which she has hinted reflects her turbulent marriage with Offset.

fans celebrate Cardi’s career milestones, her split from Offset remains unresolved, underscoring how celebrity breakups often entangle both personal and financial battles.
