Alabama standout wide receiver Ryan Williams secured a record Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal with Sally Hansen, a leading nail polish brand. The deal, announced on his 18th birthday, is worth $2.3 million, one of the most unconventional endorsements in college football.
Williams’ love for nail polish is not new. He started getting his nails painted in high school, thanks to his little sister, who wanted to experiment with different colors. What began as a bonding activity quickly turned into an act of self-expression. As time passed, Williams became well-known for matching his nail colors to his game-day outfits, creating a signature look that fans and companies could not ignore.
Sally Hansen noticed Williams. The nail polish company, which has previously teamed with former Duke basketball standout Jared McCain, recognized Williams as an ideal athlete to promote individuality and self-expression.
“I never thought that something as basic as nail polish would become all of this, It started out as just my sister having fun, and now it’s a part of me. Doing this with Sally Hansen is a dream come true.”
Williams said.
Williams’ endorsement agreement with Sally Hansen comes after a standout freshman season at Alabama. The wide receiver recorded 48 catches for 865 yards and eight touchdowns, solidifying that he’s more than just a personality; he’s a true playmaker. His play in the Georgia game—where he racked up 177 yards and a touchdown—sent his NIL valuation from $732,000 to $1.5 million almost overnight.
His social media following skyrocketed, with nearly 100,000 new Instagram followers after the Georgia game, bringing his total to over 640,000. Brands sat up and took notice, and Williams soon had endorsement deals with brands including NXTRND, Uber Eats, Hollister, Nintendo, and EA Sports College Football 25.
Williams’ NIL strategy is as much about branding as it is about business. His deal with Sally Hansen isn’t just about selling nail polish—it’s about embracing individuality, challenging stereotypes, and inspiring younger athletes to be themselves.
“This is bigger than football; a lot of guys might be scared to be themselves in other aspects, but I’m trying to show that it’s okay. Whether it’s nail polish, fashion, or anything else, be yourself.”
Williams said.
With an NIL value currently at $2.3 million, Williams is among the country’s leading college athletes. While names such as Arch Manning ($6.5M) and Cooper Flagg ($4.3M) take the lead, Williams has climbed the ranks quickly, proving personality and performance go hand in hand.
As NIL deals continue to evolve, Williams’ partnership with Sally Hansen could open the door for more unconventional endorsements in college sports. Williams redefines what it means to be a college athlete with a growing brand, a loyal following, and a knack for creating buzz.
“This is just the beginning; there’s still a lot more that I wish to do, both on and off the field. I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
He stated.
Williams is already looking forward to his sophomore year at Alabama, where he’ll continue making plays and statements with his signature flair.
